Automotive Packaging Engineer

Creative Data Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Packaging Engineer to support automotive service parts packaging programs throughout the Metro Detroit area. This role combines packaging engineering, data analysis, supplier collaboration, and project management to develop and maintain effective packaging solutions that protect parts, reduce damage, improve efficiency, and support customer requirements. The ideal candidate has experience with automotive packaging systems, strong analytical skills, and a passion for solving problems through practical engineering solutions. Salary $65,000 - $75,000 per year Responsibilities Learn, maintain, and support internal packaging systems and processes. Review automotive service parts and determine packaging requirements using established standards and specifications. Develop and maintain packaging specifications for new and existing parts. Evaluate and manage special packaging project requests from customers and stakeholders. Support packaging design, testing, validation, and implementation activities. Analyze damage claim data and identify opportunities to reduce concealed damage and shipping-related issues. Conduct root cause analysis of packaging failures and damage incidents and develop corrective actions. Coordinate with packaging suppliers, material suppliers, customers, and dealers to resolve packaging concerns. Maintain project trackers, documentation, and status reports. Perform packaging reviews and identify opportunities for cost reduction, process improvement, and packaging optimization. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging performance, logistics, and customer satisfaction. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field; equivalent industry experience will also be considered. Experience in packaging engineering, preferably within the automotive or automotive service parts industry. Understanding of packaging materials, expendable packaging, dunnage, labeling, and transportation requirements. Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, pivot tables, reporting, and trend identification. Ability to evaluate large data sets and identify risks, patterns, and improvement opportunities. Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Excellent communication, organization, and follow-up skills. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers. Preferred Qualifications Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier experience. Experience with packaging testing, validation, and damage reduction initiatives. Experience supporting service parts packaging programs. Familiarity with returnable and expendable packaging systems. Work Location & Flexibility This position supports automotive programs throughout the Metro Detroit area, including Livonia, Dearborn, Monroe, and other local customer and supplier locations. Creative Data supports customers and projects throughout Southeast Michigan and maintains multiple work locations within the region. A primary work location will be established during the hiring process based on business needs, project assignments, and candidate location. Regular local travel is an expected part of this role and may include visits to customer facilities, supplier locations, testing sites, and project meetings.
