PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES The Automation & Controls Engineer I maintains, troubleshoots, and improves automated manufacturing systems, including injection molding, lens coating, inspection, etching, milling, material handling, and robotics. This role is critical to the safe, reliable operation of equipment supporting the manufacture of military-grade protective eyewear. SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provide electrical and mechanical technical support for production and support equipment, focusing on safety, operational efficiency, machine performance, and process improvement. Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance to troubleshoot equipment and processes; implement repairs, upgrades, modifications, and installations as needed. Identify root causes of equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and safety. Maintain accurate records of equipment malfunctions, anomalies, root causes, corrective actions, and process improvements. Develop and improve operating procedures, work instructions, and diagnostic manuals to ensure safe system and process operation. Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and Procurement to source parts, documentation, and services, and manage assigned portions of projects of varying scope. Perform other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Electrical Engineering or Electro-mechanical Engineering or the equivalent combination of 2-4 years of education and 0-2 years of hands on experience. Experience with NEC and NFPA Electrical Codes. Experience in an IEC 61131-3 programming Environment (Codesys). Experience with Industrial communication buses i.e. AS-I Bus, Interbus, and Ethernet. Experience with programmable logic control (PLC), human-machine interface (HMI) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software, pc-based control, distributed control systems (DCS), CNC, motion control, robotics, machine control, vision systems, motor drives, and manufacturing execution systems (MES). Experience maintaining, programming robotic automation and motion control, including multi-axis robots and system integration. Knowledge of these component types: Basic sensors: Pressure transmitters, flow transmitters, Limit Switches, Proximity switches, Optical sensors, Bar code Systems, Current and Voltage Isolators. AC and DC Motors; understand Motor Torque, HP and how to control speeds. Must have experience in AC and DC Drives, understand PID loops. Understanding of electrical and mechanical prints, schematics, manuals, for various types of manufacturing equipment systems. Electrical and mechanical system and component level trouble shooting skills required. Experience in Allen-Bradley PLC controls programming languages such as, SFC, Function Blocks, Structured Text and Rockwell Ladder logic, networks and Profibus. Ability to manage pressure within a fast-paced work environment, flexibility to support critical production schedules. Support Mechanical, Process, and Maintenance engineering projects as needed. Competent using basic MS Office applications (MS Excel, MS Project, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Must have effective verbal and written communication skills. U.S. Government authorization required. WORK ENVIRONMENT ( include physical requirements ) Mixed office and production floor work environment May have to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
