About the Position

FS Transportation is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Assistant Transportation Manager to support the daily execution of our dispatch and shipping operations. This role serves as the primary first shift dispatcher and acts as a key escalation point for cross-department coordination and conflict resolution.  The position also provides daily oversight of garage personnel and work-orders as assigned by the Transportation Manager. Position plays a critical role in ensuring smooth day-to-day company performance,

maintaining strong communication with Customer Service, and helping deliver reliable experience for all our customers. This position reports directly to the Transportation Manager and is highly focused on operational Transportation, Shipping, and Maintenance excellence!


Key Responsibilities – Dispatch and Garage Supervision

  • Oversee and manage daily transportation and shipping activities to ensure safe, efficient operations
  • Organize, prioritize, and direct all first shift functions, including loading, bill of lading (BOL) creation, and on-time departures
  • Plan and optimize driver routes, including coordination of backhaul opportunities with customers
  • Serve as the main point of contact for driver communications, resolving route issues and adjusting plans as needed
  • Partner closely with Customer Service to proactively address and communicate any order-related issues
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of the Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Collaboration with Compliance on driver-related matters and regulatory adherence
  • Provide cross-shift support as needed to ensure compliance with company policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Manage daily garage operations, including trailer repairs, tractor maintenance, and all other customer repair activities
  • Help plan and prioritize daily work orders to meet deadlines and maintain efficient workflow
  • Ensure all customer repairs meet high quality standards and company expectations
  • Communicate with customers regarding vehicle issues and repair timelines
  • As assigned, monitor inventory levels and coordinate ordering of parts and supplies
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and company policies

       

Qualifications

  • Requires minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, dispatch, and maintenance operations
  • Requires minimum of 5 years managing and leading teams to produce results
  • Preferred candidates should be able to show history of:

-History of strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment

-Excellent communication and problem-solving ability

-Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS)

-Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and fleet management systems like (Samsara, Verizon, Motive)

-Ability to lead, prioritize, and make decisions under pressure

-Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance standards
