Assistant Terminal Manager
Active USAJOB SUMMARY This role will assist the Terminal Manager to ensure that the terminal meets and/or exceeds company and customer targets in metrics involving productivity, quality, and delivery performance items. This role would be responsible for ensuring that company policies are understood and followed while monitoring terminal operations. This site has union employees; the Assistant Terminal Manager must understand the basics of navigating compliance and regulations within union contracts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise and assist the terminal staff in tracking personnel metrics and productivity, ensuring company standards and expectations are met. Monitor and enforce compliance to safe working and driving practices, i.e., wearing of proper safety attire, adhering to safety procedures such as practicing a 3-point stance while climbing off equipment, and staying updated on any safety and/or compliance training. Monitor and enforce customer vehicle handling requirements. Exhibit and communicate company expectations through daily interactions with drivers and staff via interpersonal and written/phone communication. Monitor and enforce an effective pre and post trip inspection program. Monitor driver productivity. Monitor shop productivity. Monitor inventories (freight, supplies, equipment, etc.). Handle non-compliance of DOT regulations, per company policy. Develop and mentor team to encourage growth and skill development. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee terminal staff, including yard staff and drivers, according to Terminal Manager specifications, including production activities, metrics/KPIs, training, coaching, disciplinary measures, mentorship, and growth development. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 5 years related experience and/or training; or Equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and eloquently before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to sit, stand, walk, and bend for long periods of time. WORK ENVIRONMENT High-volume truck terminal.
