Assistant Store Manager / Key Carrier

We are seeking a reliable, customer-focused Assistant Store Manager / Key Carrier for a high-volume liquor store in the Hudson, MA area. This role supports daily store operations, customer service, inventory management, merchandising, and team supervision, with responsibility for closing procedures. Candidates must be available to work nights, evenings, and weekends. Previous retail or liquor industry experience is a plus. Summary of Position The Assistant Store Manager / Key Carrier supports the daily operation of a high-volume retail liquor store by assisting with store supervision, customer service, inventory management, cash handling, and store security. This position helps ensure efficient store operations, compliance with applicable alcohol sales laws, and a positive customer experience. The employee may be responsible for closing the store and overseeing operations in the Store Manager’s absence. Essential Job Duties Close the store in accordance with established procedures. Maintain responsibility for assigned store keys, authorized access, and security procedures. Follow established procedures for cash security, loss prevention, and incident reporting. Assist customers with product questions, product location, and general purchasing needs. Respond to customer concerns professionally and refer escalated matters to the Store Manager when appropriate. Follow applicable laws and company procedures for age verification and alcohol sales, including refusing prohibited transactions. Support efficient customer checkout and a welcoming retail environment. Provide guidance to team members regarding customer service, store procedures, and workplace expectations. Communicate staffing, performance, and operational concerns to the Store Manager. Help maintain employee accountability and consistent execution of store procedures. Monitor merchandise levels and identify products requiring replenishment. Receive, verify, organize, and stock merchandise in accordance with established procedures. Maintain accurate product pricing, shelf organization, and promotional displays. Assist with inventory counts and communicate discrepancies, damaged products, or potential shortages to management. Operate the point-of-sale system and process customer transactions accurately. Perform assigned cash-handling, register reconciliation, and end-of-shift procedures. Maintain accurate operational records and report transaction discrepancies in accordance with company policies. Maintain clean, organized, and orderly sales floors, shelving, checkout areas, and other assigned work areas. Identify and report spills, damaged merchandise, obstructions, and other potential safety hazards. Follow established procedures for merchandise handling, workplace safety, and emergency response. Perform other related duties as assigned that are consistent with the position's responsibilities and business needs. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age, as required by the employer for this position. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, and management. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, established procedures, and applicable alcohol sales laws. Demonstrated reliability, sound judgment, and attention to detail. Availability to work assigned evening, night, and weekend shifts. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in retail, customer service, or a supervisory role. Experience in liquor, wine, beer, or beverage retail. Experience with point-of-sale systems, cash handling, inventory management, and store closing procedures.
