Assistant General Manager

Job Description Good Day Cafe is seeking a motivated, experienced, and organized Assistant General Manager to support daily café operations and help deliver outstanding customer service. The successful candidate will work closely with the General Manager to supervise employees, maintain food and beverage quality, coordinate staffing, monitor inventory, and ensure the café operates efficiently. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication, and a hands-on approach to managing daily challenges while creating a welcoming environment for customers and employees. Key Responsibilities Assist the General Manager in overseeing daily café operations and service activities. Supervise front-of-house staff and coordinate with kitchen and beverage-service teams. Help develop staff schedules, assign shifts, and ensure adequate operational coverage. Monitor employee performance and provide guidance to maintain service standards. Ensure customers receive friendly, attentive, and professional service. Handle customer questions, complaints, and feedback with patience and professionalism. Maintain consistent food quality, beverage presentation, and order accuracy. Support recruitment, employee onboarding, and staff training. Encourage teamwork, accountability, and positive communication among employees. Ensure dining areas, service counters, kitchen spaces, and restrooms remain clean and organized. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment of food, beverages, and operating supplies. Assist with stock rotation, delivery checks, and inventory recordkeeping. Help reduce food waste and control unnecessary operating expenses. Support cash-handling procedures and ensure accurate point-of-sale transactions. Assist with opening and closing procedures and daily operational checklists. Monitor service speed and help resolve delays during busy periods. Coordinate communication between servers, kitchen employees, and management. Assist with sales tracking, daily reports, and basic financial administration. Help implement menu changes, seasonal offerings, and promotional activities. Ensure employees follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace health procedures. Report equipment problems and coordinate maintenance requests when needed. Assist the General Manager with budgeting and cost-control initiatives. Help resolve routine staffing and operational issues fairly and efficiently. Ensure company policies and applicable local regulations are followed. Recommend improvements to workflow, customer satisfaction, and overall café performance. Assume additional management responsibilities when the General Manager is unavailable. Qualifications and Skills Previous experience in café, restaurant, or hospitality operations. Supervisory or assistant management experience preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and team-management skills. Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities. Knowledge of food and beverage service standards. Understanding of inventory management, stock rotation, and waste reduction. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and cash-handling procedures. Ability to organize schedules and coordinate daily staff activities. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace hygiene practices. Basic understanding of sales performance, labor costs, and expense management. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Professional attitude and a willingness to lead by example. Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as required. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; additional hospitality or management training is an advantage.
