Assistant Cafe Manager

Department: Retail Café Operations Reports To: Café Manager / Director of Operations Location: Brooklyn, New York Employment Type: Full-Time Classification: To be determined based on applicable wage and hour requirements Position Summary Cannoli Café by Cannoli Plus is seeking a motivated, dependable, and hands-on Assistant Café Manager to support the daily operations of our Italian-inspired café and bakery. Rooted in over 30 years of Italian pastry tradition, Cannoli Plus combines authentic Italian desserts, premium espresso beverages, fresh bakery products, and exceptional hospitality. The Assistant Café Manager will play a key leadership role in maintaining operational excellence, supporting and developing team members, driving sales, ensuring food safety compliance, and delivering an outstanding guest experience. This individual must lead by example, demonstrate strong accountability, and be willing to work alongside the team during busy service periods. Key Responsibilities 1. Daily Café Operations Assist in overseeing all daily café operations, including opening, closing, and shift transitions. Ensure the café is clean, organized, fully stocked, and prepared for daily service. Supervise barista, bakery counter, and food preparation operations. Maintain proper product presentation, merchandising, and display standards. Monitor product availability and communicate replenishment needs. Ensure all equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, refrigeration units, and ovens, is functioning properly. Complete daily operational checklists and communicate issues to management. Assume responsibility for café operations when the Café Manager is absent. 2. Team Leadership & Development Supervise, coach, and motivate café employees. Assist with employee scheduling, attendance monitoring, and shift assignments. Train employees on beverage preparation, food handling, customer service, and company procedures. Ensure team members follow company policies, uniform requirements, and professional conduct standards. Address employee performance concerns promptly and professionally. Support employee onboarding and ongoing skills development. Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive workplace culture. Communicate staffing or disciplinary concerns to senior management. 3. Guest Experience & Customer Service Deliver a welcoming, professional, and memorable guest experience. Ensure all customers receive prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable service. Resolve guest complaints and service concerns within company guidelines. Maintain high standards for order accuracy, speed of service, and product presentation. Build positive relationships with regular customers. Monitor guest feedback and recommend service improvements. Lead by example during high-volume service periods. 4. Food Safety, Sanitation & Compliance Ensure compliance with applicable New York City Department of Health regulations and company food safety policies. Monitor refrigeration temperatures, product holding times, and food storage conditions. Ensure completion of required temperature logs and food safety documentation. Maintain proper product labeling, date marking, rotation, and FIFO procedures. Enforce proper handwashing, glove usage, cleaning, and sanitation practices. Monitor allergen awareness and prevent cross-contact. Ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing of espresso equipment, preparation areas, food-contact surfaces, and display cases. Report equipment failures, sanitation concerns, and potential food safety violations immediately. Assist in maintaining inspection readiness at all times. 5. Inventory Management & Waste Control Assist with daily and weekly inventory counts. Monitor stock levels of coffee, milk, syrups, pastries, cannoli products, packaging, and supplies.
