Assistant Buyer, Beauty
Claire'sBrief Description General Summary Claire’s is being remade as a modern playground for girlhood, designed for Gen Alpha girls across the U.S. and Canada. While so many brands are trying to pull her toward what’s next, Claire’s is built around who she is right now—a place where she can explore, make choices, and build confidence. Claire’s has pierced more than 131 million customers, and for many girls, it is the first store where they spend their own money on something they chose for themselves. Our strategy is to build the products, experiences, and stores around those choices, giving her reasons to come back at every stage of girlhood. That work is happening now across piercing and jewelry, beauty, accessories, and toys. The Assistant Buyer is involved from the very beginning. You’ll follow product from first sample to store, sit in the room where the assortment is shaped, and look at the weekly data to understand what she picked up, what she passed on, and why. Your decisions reach 900 stores and you can walk into one and see your work come to life on the sales floor. In your first year, success means becoming the person in the room who knows your product area better than anyone else and turns weekly reads into actions the team can use. From there, your ownership grows—from the size of the business you manage to the decisions you make independently. Every merchant is reviewed twice a year on performance and potential, with development plans tied directly to what’s required for the next level. Key Responsibilities Analyze and report on your area weekly and provide tactical in season trading actions to drive the business forward. Build expertise in the customer and the competition for the assigned department, including other retailers' assortments, pricing and promotions against Claire's, and report back findings, white space opportunities and actions. Track assigned tests cleanly: matched doors, matched weeks, and per-department reads, so scale, extend or exit decisions rest on actuals. Use retail math to analyze the department weekly, monthly and seasonally, provide accurate investment inputs, and explain item level sales, margin and inventory variances, escalating errors and emerging risks. Create and maintain style boards and line sheets with the product detail cross-functional partners need. Manage the sample process: sort styles by category and season, track every sample against requirements, and communicate product changes before shipment. Develop and maintain cross-functional relationships with Design, Product Development, Sourcing, Planning, Allocation, Marketing and In Store Presentation to learn the seasonal buying process. Support the Buyer and the merchandising team on day-to-day functions for the assigned departments. Own administrative deliverables: meeting reports and recaps, purchase orders, submits, sample tracking and seasonal buy recaps, keeping the critical path on time and the information accurate. Manage email correspondence efficiently, escalate concerns to the merchandising team, and meet deadlines without a reminder. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in fashion merchandising, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience Experience In Retail Or Merchandise Buying Preferred Curiosity about the customer we serve and what she is choosing right now Comfort with numbers, including retail math, and the instinct to ask what a number means rather than only report it Organized enough to hold a critical path on time without being chased Clear written and verbal communication, including with partners outside merchandising Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint) Summary Claire’s is committed to adhering to all applicable company policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
