Assistant Bar Manager

Job Description American Coney Island is seeking a motivated, organized, and customer-focused Assistant Bar Manager to support bar operations and maintain excellent beverage service standards. The successful candidate will work closely with the Bar Manager to supervise staff, coordinate daily activities, manage inventory, and ensure a welcoming and efficient service environment. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver consistent service while supporting the restaurant's overall hospitality goals. Key Responsibilities Assist the Bar Manager with daily bar operations and service coordination. Supervise bartenders and beverage-service employees during assigned shifts. Help prepare staff schedules, organize shift assignments, and coordinate breaks. Ensure guests receive friendly, attentive, and professional service. Maintain beverage preparation, presentation, and quality standards. Monitor bar service during busy periods and help maintain efficient order turnaround. Assist with inventory management and monitor beverage, ingredient, and supply levels. Coordinate stock replenishment and report purchasing needs to management. Maintain accurate inventory records and support regular stock counts. Help control waste, manage portions, and reduce unnecessary operating costs. Ensure bar counters, equipment, glassware, and service areas remain clean and organized. Follow applicable food safety, sanitation, and workplace hygiene procedures. Support responsible alcohol-service practices and age-verification requirements wherever applicable. Handle guest questions, feedback, and complaints professionally. Assist with training new employees on service procedures and workplace expectations. Communicate operational updates and service priorities to the bar team. Coordinate with servers, kitchen staff, and restaurant management to support smooth service. Assist with cash-handling procedures and accurate point-of-sale transactions. Monitor sales activity and help prepare daily shift reports when required. Support beverage menu updates, special offers, and promotional activities. Check bar equipment for proper operation and report maintenance requirements. Help enforce company policies, service standards, and applicable local regulations. Encourage teamwork, accountability, and professional conduct among employees. Assist in resolving routine operational issues and escalate significant concerns to the Bar Manager. Take responsibility for assigned management duties when the Bar Manager is unavailable. Qualifications and Skills Previous experience in a bar, restaurant, or hospitality environment. Supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred. Knowledge of beverage preparation, service procedures, and bar operations. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Excellent customer service and conflict-resolution abilities. Understanding of inventory control, stock rotation, and waste reduction. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems and cash-handling procedures. Ability to organize staff activities and coordinate shift responsibilities. Knowledge of sanitation, hygiene, and workplace safety requirements. Understanding of responsible alcohol service where applicable. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment. Good judgment when addressing customer concerns and operational challenges. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and varied shifts as required. Relevant hospitality training or beverage-service certifications are an advantage.
