911 Emergency Dispatcher

Overview The Emergency Dispatcher plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community by efficiently managing emergency calls and coordinating response efforts. This position requires a calm demeanor, quick thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively under pressure. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills and be proficient in various communication technologies to provide timely assistance during emergencies. Duties Receive and assess emergency calls, determining the nature and urgency of the situation. Communicate clearly with callers to gather essential information while providing reassurance. Dispatch appropriate emergency services (police, fire, medical) based on the situation assessed. Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to locate incidents and direct responders accurately. Maintain communication with responding units to provide updates and additional information as needed. Manage multiple calls simultaneously while prioritizing tasks effectively. Demonstrate conflict management skills when dealing with distressed or agitated individuals. Skills Strong analytical skills to assess situations quickly and make informed decisions. Proficient typing skills for accurate data entry during high-pressure situations. Familiarity with GIS technology for effective mapping and resource allocation. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for clear interaction with callers and responders. Experience with phone systems used in emergency response environments is advantageous. Conflict management abilities to handle challenging conversations calmly and professionally.
