TITLE: Transportation Supervisor
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 1.0 FTE; 12-Month position
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Classified - Exempt
GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Transportation Supervisor will be responsible for managing a safe and efficient transportation system that both delivers students on time for the instructional day and enables students to take advantage of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the district’s schools.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
- Ability to deal effectively with matters of confidentiality.
- Develops, monitors and evaluates the district’s transportation system and assigned transportation personnel.
- Coordinates with administrative and district staff to address transportation needs and ensures that the Dispatcher prepares and updates bus schedules and routes for all schools in the district.
- Recruits, supervises and evaluates all transportation personnel, making recommendations on their employment, transfer, promotion, and release.
- Handles all parent and administrative concerns regarding transportation issues, conflict resolution, and emergency situations.
- Maintains safety standards in compliance with federal, state, and insurance regulations, and coordinates with the lead mechanic on a program of preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
- Ensures all bus driver training and certification renewals are completed in a timely manner.
- Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
- With the assistance of the Dispatcher, monitors all buses on transportation runs during normal school day, after hours, and on weekends.
- Considers all aspects of district curriculum and testing schedules when carrying out the duties of the transportation department.
- Reports all accidents and other unusual events to the Facilities & Transportation Director and other designated authorities as assigned.
- Maintains the federal random drug screening program.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:
High risk - Work is routinely performed in outdoor environments, including exposure to noise levels varying from low to mid based on the type of tools or equipment being used on at any given time, and being on your feet for extended periods of time. Daily exposure to hazardous materials such as blood born pathogens, high voltage, gases, or heights. At time extreme heat and cold weather will be encountered.

The applicant for this position is required to:
- Stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, using hands and fingers to hold, feel, grasp, or reach equipment, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Sit approximately 75% of the time
- Walk and Stand approximately 15% of the time
- Kneeling/Stooping approximately 10% of the time
- Lift on a regular basis 30-50lbs
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
- Hearing ability to monitor presence and activity of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Available for early morning or split shifts, and the occasional evenings.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
- Must possess and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License, with the
- School Bus and Passenger Endorsement, and
- School Bus Certification
- Obtain and maintain a Valid CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain within 45 days of hire.
- Minimum three years’ experience in pupil transportation, some supervisory experience preferred.
- Must possess an ability to deal effectively with matters of confidentiality.
- Must possess proficiency in computer terminal operations.
- Post-high school education and/or training, preferred.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess ability to work with and communicate with students, staff, and parents.
SKILLS REQUIRED:

- Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
- Ability to make recommendation for major repairs or revamping of equipment; meet emergencies and analyze situations; do short- and long-range planning and budgeting; plan and lay out routine preventative maintenance schedules.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices.
- Proficiency in handling toxic and hazardous chemicals.
- Proficiency in interpreting federal, state, local mandated programs, building codes and environmental rules and regulations.
- General maintenance of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, heating and cooling equipment, maintenance materials and their proper application; types and kinds of equipment and material used in maintenance repairs.
- Safety guidelines, mechanics, and equipment operation and repair.
- Experience with safety codes in plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC.
- Current federal and state mandated programs including asbestos, master meter gas systems, and fire systems.
- Standard office machines, Computer and EMS systems.
- Volt/Amp meter, all skilled hand tools, and CFC equipment.
- Toxic and Hazardous chemicals.

The evaluation is done by the Director of Facilities, Transportation & Energy.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The Transportation Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Facilities, Transportation & Energy.
