The successful candidate will be responsible for leading all yard and warehouse operations, ensuring a safe and productive work environment, supporting inventory accuracy, and driving operational excellence across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop yard and warehouse employees while fostering a positive, accountable team culture.
- Direct daily operations including scheduling, task delegation, workload management, and performance oversight.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety and ensure compliance with all Occupational Health & Safety requirements.
- Act as management representative on the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Coordinate employee onboarding, safety training, forklift certification, and ongoing skills development.
- Build strong working relationships with both unionized employees and internal stakeholders.
- Partner closely with sales and operations teams to ensure exceptional customer service and order fulfillment.
- Oversee inventory control, cycle counts, and year-end inventory processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve yard layout, workflow efficiency, product storage, and material handling practices.
- Manage fleet, equipment, and facility maintenance requirements while controlling operational costs.
- Ensure all operational documentation and reporting requirements are completed accurately and on time.
- Minimum 5+ years of leadership experience within the lumber, building materials, or construction supply industry.
- Previous experience managing unionized employees is required.
- Strong knowledge of lumber, building materials, hardware, and warehouse operations.
- Demonstrated success leading yard, warehouse, distribution, or branch operations.
- Strong understanding of inventory management, shipping, receiving, and material handling processes.
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and safe work practices.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop employees while managing performance and accountability.
- Strong organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Comfortable balancing customer service, operational priorities, and employee relations in a fast-paced environment.
