Description

The Warehouse Specialist – Transportation is a key contributor to the success of our distribution operations, leveraging specialized skills and experience in areas such as receiving, production, inventory control, and administration. This role is responsible for coordinating and directing daily activities, training team members, and ensuring the completion of unique departmental tasks in support of the Transportation Team.

 

The Warehouse Specialist fosters a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement, actively supporting Lean initiatives and maintaining a clean, organized work environment. With a broad understanding of multiple warehouse functions, this position adapts to shifting business needs and collaborates closely with Transportation supervisors, leads, and associates.

 

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver, effective communicator, and dedicated to upholding core values. This role is essential for driving operational excellence and supporting the growth and development of the team.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate and direct daily warehouse operations, monitor production, and resolve operational issues – Allocate work at shift startup, oversee warehouse management systems and equipment, and reallocate resources to address barriers and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Crosstrain in all departments and perform multiple distribution-related functions as needed – Maintain expertise in key areas such as receiving, production, inventory control, and administration to support flexible assignments and business requirements.
  • Train and mentor team associates, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement – Provide hands-on training, encourage positive team spirit, and support Lean initiatives within the operation.
  • Actively contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment – Lead by example in housekeeping, safety practices, and adherence to company values.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, leads, associates, and facility leadership – Lead shift startup meetings, share information related to immediate tasks, and escalate issues as needed to ensure operational success.

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Level of Formal Education: High School diploma or equivalent education preferred
  • Minimum Years of Experience:   1
  • Type of Experience: Distribution Center, Warehouse experience
  • Technical Competencies & Information Systems: Basic computer skills, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Skills & Abilities:
  •  
    • Basic ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, using the English language
    • Basic math skills (counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication
    • Basic computer skills (accessing and navigating the internet; familiar with the keyboard; opening, closing and saving documents
    • Ability to lift a minimum of 70 pounds regularly, up to 150 pounds infrequently
    • Ability to push, pull, grasp, and fine manipulation of equipment hands-on is ongoing
    • Walking on uneven surfaces possible, though infrequently
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule is a plus (start shift early and/or stay until the work is complete)
    • Exhibit good job performance and behavior as measured through indicators such as teamwork, attendance, quality and productivity, etc.
