Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate would perform managerial duties planning, budgeting, coordinating, and supervising the operation of wastewater treatment and reclaim systems. They would possess extensive knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, maintenance, and reclaim distribution systems. The candidate would possess the knowledge and ability to effectively manage wastewater supply resources and supplies. The candidate would be well organized and capable of assigning subordinate responsibilities and establishing guidelines for personnel training, evaluation, scheduling, discipline, daily operations, and preventative maintenance. Possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The candidate would have knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines concerning permitting for water production and treatment. Possess the knowledge and ability to evaluate compliance with all environmental, health, safety and operational standards. The successful candidate would be a highly motivated, self-starter possessing extensive motivational skills and teaching skills. The candidate would have the ability to set up and facilitate staff meetings, safety meetings, and tailgate meetings before work. A good listener while also being a great communicator both orally and written as well as maintain detailed records and logs of duties and logistical data. The candidate would follow up on work performed while always communicating changes and status updates to the chain of command. The candidate would be well organized, utilizing calendars and reminders to aid themselves and subordinates in completing tasks. Candidates must be able and willing to respond to emergency situations to provide for public health and safety. The ability and willingness to perform duties in a standby status. Candidates should have extensive computer skills with standard software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Manages water supply, wastewater treatment, or water/wastewater line installation and maintenance resources, operations, and supplies.
- Assigns subordinate responsibilities and establishes guidelines for personnel training, evaluation, scheduling, discipline, daily operations, and preventative maintenance.
- Evaluates maintenance and personnel certification requirements.
- Identifies resource and inventory needs and makes recommendations.
- Evaluates compliance with environmental, health, safety, and operational standards.
- Determines funding requirements, prepares budget documents, monitors status of allocated funds, and controls expenses.
- Investigates problems and directs remedial action.
- Coordinates with appropriate points of contact to ensure achievement of department objectives.

Job Specifications
- Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment plant operations, maintenance, distribution systems, and collection systems.
- Knowledge of chemical and biological principles related to water and wastewater treatment.

Physical Requirements
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Minimum Qualifications Required
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED Certificate; AND
- Eight years of experience in the operation or maintenance of a water or wastewater utility system of which three (3) years must have been in a supervisory capacity;
OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
- Possession of a valid Florida Driver License; AND
- Based on area assignment, the hiring authority may require possession of a State of Florida Class I Distribution System Operator, or a State of Florida Water/Wastewater Plant Operator “A” Certificate of License.

Emergency Management Responsibilities
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
