The attached driving record for the initial application process need not be the “certified document”. Before appointment to the position, you may be asked to produce the "certified drivers record" issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
THE COUNTY:
Alameda County, located on the east side of San Francisco

THE POSITION:
Under general supervision, to transport infants and minor
children, juvenile detainees, and county wards by passenger car, van, bus, or
other public transportation; to be responsible for their safety and care; and
to perform related duties as required.
Positions in this classification are found in the Social Services Agency and the Probation Department. Most trips are within the Bay Area Counties; however, some assignments may be throughout the State of California. Transportation Workers are not assigned any counseling functions.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

knowledge and skills below, the ideal candidate will possess:

are required.

practices related to driving and vehicle inspection, and the ability to

takes effective action to ensure a high level of service.
· A desire to work with the targeted youth
population in an appropriate and professional manner.
· Ability to communicate effectively with diverse
groups.

THE VACANCIES:
This recruitment is to fill positions in the Social Services Agency and the Probation Department. The eligibility list resulting from this recruitment may also be used to fill hourly services-as-needed vacancies. Experience:
The equivalent of one year of full-time work experience involving the operation
of a motor vehicle or performing work which requires use of a vehicle on the
job.
Special Requirements:
Some positions require possession of a certificate of completion in First Aid
or Basic Life Support, AND possession of a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
certificate.
A good driving record according to the Department of Motor Vehicles negligent
operator guidelines, and qualification for automobile insurance.
Candidates appointed to positions in this classification in the Probation
Department must pass a thorough background investigation. Any felony conviction
is disqualifying.
License:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License. Some positions require that
the applicant possess a valid Class B California Driver's License.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above minimum qualifications
in the announcement of an examination.
The most suitably qualified candidates will
possess the following competencies:
Knowledge of:
• General behavior patterns of young children, juveniles,.
• Traffic rules and regulations and safe driving practices.
• First aid and basic life saving techniques.
Ability to:
• Operate a passenger automobile, van or bus in a safe and proper manner.
• Provide articulate information regarding the passenger's behavior and ability
to relate during the drive.
• Supervise children while driving.
• Schedule trips and appointments efficiently.
• Exercise prudence and caution in the transportation of juveniles.
• Maintain security and safety routines.
• Effectively deal with disturbed youngsters and adolescents.
• Communicate tactfully and effectively with juveniles.
• Function effectively under stress and evaluate situations for potential
danger.
• Follow written and oral instructions.
• Care for infants.
• Become familiar with the general characteristics and behavior patterns of
mentally disordered persons.
THE EXAMINATION:
The examination will consist of the following three (3)
steps:
Review for Minimum Qualifications:
If you do meet the minimum qualifications, you will be
notified via email. You must fill out the application and supplemental
questionnaire completely. Not filling out any part of either the application or
the supplemental questionnaire will disqualify you from the examination.
Resumes submitted in place of complete applications will not be accepted.
Virtual Written Examination:
Once it has been established that you meet the minimum
qualifications, you will be invited via email to participate in a
multiple-choice examination.
Virtual Oral Panel Interview (Weighted as 100% of the final examination score):
If the candidate is successful in the written portion of
the examination, the candidate will then be invited to participate in an oral
interview where they will be asked about past job experiences relating to the
core competencies that successful incumbents of the job possess. The candidates
who pass this portion of the exam will then be scored and put into rank order.
The oral panel interview may also serve as the hiring interview at the
discretion of the hiring authority. The dates listed above are tentative and
subject to change based on the needs of the department.
Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each
portion of this recruitment.
