Reporting to the Manager of Transportation Planning, the Transportation Technologist is accountable for evaluating, recommending and implementing municipal traffic controls to facilitate safe and efficient vehicular and pedestrian movement. The position helps to shape new developments by reviewing and commenting on traffic management plans and through traffic by-law management.Job Duties Include
The responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Conducts analyses and studies concerning the effectiveness of existing municipal traffic controls, analyzes the merit and appropriateness of traffic calming and implements traffic calming measures where required.
Develops and coordinates a data collection program and utilizes equipment to collect in-field transportation data.
Completes the rotation and ensures effective operation of Radar Message Board program.
Utilizes AutoCAD to complete designs of Traffic Calming measures and Active Transportation facilities. Assists with the review of development applications including traffic management plans, site plans and subdivision applications.
Inspects the installation of traffic control measures in new developments for compliance with the approved plans, design standards and specifications prior to road assumption.
Assists with the review and response to traffic related (traffic control, parking restrictions, speeding, school safety, etc.) complaints and enquiries from residents or Council through direct response, instructions to staff, other departments and or agencies.
Assist in preparing reports and recommendations to Council for their direction and/or bylaw endorsement.
Qualifications/Skills
A 3-year college diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Technology or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
Five (5) years of relevant experience with traffic analysis and reporting, technical advice, plan interpretation and approvals, Municipal and legal site inspections matters, liaising with Council, Technical Committees, Agencies and the public.
Thorough knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Traffic Manual, Highway Capacity Manual, and other applicable Transportation manuals and guidelines.
Excellent technical ability: working with computers, spreadsheets and word processing, traffic counters and survey equipment, AutoCAD, plotter, GIS Editor, Cityworks, CRM, and MapViewer.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a strong emphasis on customer service.
Excellent organization, time management and administrative skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
A valid G driver’s license with a clear driver’s abstract.
Able to provide a current Criminal Record Check (dated within the last 6 months) that is satisfactory to the Town, upon hire.

Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.
Work Hours: This is a unionized position that works a 35 hour work week. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
