We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Transportation Technician to perform technical inspection duties at asphalt, concrete, and aggregate production facilities. This position plays a critical role in ensuring materials meet project specifications, contract documents, and approved Quality Control Plans before they are incorporated into transportation projects.
If you have experience in materials testing, plant inspection, or construction quality assurance, this is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the safety and durability of public infrastructure.
In this position, you will ensure the accuracy and proper execution of all testing procedures in accordance with Pennsylvania Test Methods (PTM), AASHTO, and ASTM standards while reviewing laboratory reports for completeness and compliance with project specifications. You will observe material shipments to verify that delivered products meet contract requirements and that certified weigh slips accurately represent quantities shipped. You will witness technicians at Portland cement plants, asphalt production facilities, and aggregate quarries to confirm proper sampling, testing, and quality control practices. You will accurately document sampling and testing activities using the appropriate designated methods, identify potential deficiencies, recommend corrective actions when appropriate, and promptly report issues to supervisory staff. You will apply and evaluate compliance with testing procedures including extraction, gradation, specific gravity, absorption, air content, slump, unit weight, and wash testing. Additionally, you will ensure vendors follow approved Quality Control Plans, maintain required documentation, prepare accurate reports, and support District-level Quality Assurance through independent sample collection and verification testing.
