Compensation:

  • Starting base salary for this position is: $63,400 to $70,000 per year
  • Pay is based on job-related experience

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday starting at 5:00am

Location:

  • This position is in the office full time at the St. Michael location. Some travel will be required to our domicile locations.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise and mentor Truck Drivers: Monitor daily activities of all drivers, including domiciles, through ride along routes, one on one conversation, and performance metrics.  Makes recommendations regarding driver training, addressing complaints and resolving problems.  Maintains and manages confidential information.  Responsibilities also include employment decisions, disciplinary actions, writing and conducting performance evaluations, objective setting, and associate development. Manages Paid Time Off (PTO) scheduling for all drivers.  Prepares accurate and timely payroll records to ensure correct pay to payroll system.  Resolves after hour issues as they arise with loads, customers and driver force.
  • Oversee workflow and daily functions: Assists Transportation Manager to ensure D.O.T. compliance on HOS, maintain PTO coverage, and manage overtime.  Scheduling equipment, routes, and drivers to ensure operational efficiency (manages driver dispatch and schedule daily). Review routing on a regular basis to assist the routing specialist.  Daily driver and driver lead interactions and questions.  Cascade information from Manager and Corporate to assigned driver group.  Serve as back up for routing specialist and Transportation staff as needed. 
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Works with retail and 3PL sales staff, warehouse and garage to facilitate special requests by customers for delivery and problem solving in regards to delivery challenges that arise. Coordinate between sales staff and drivers to ensure proper balance between customer satisfaction and operation efficiency to control costs.  Communicate and meet with sales staff, warehouse, and garage to develop and maintain good working relationships.  
  • P Card program: Monitors P card transactions from drivers. Ensures P card expenses are coded to the right General Ledger (GL) to maintain budget. Issue express codes for comchecks as needed by drivers.  
  • Licensing: Maintains a Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with proper endorsements at all times.  Maintains familiarity with current DOT rules and regulations. 

 

  • Supervisory/Functional Management Requirements: Provides work direction, leadership, and training to a number of employees

 

  • Education and Experience:
    • HS Diploma/Equivalent required
    • Associate Degree (2 year) preferred

 

  • SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:
    • Fleet or transportation supervisory experience.
    • Knowledge of D.O.T. Federal Regulations.
    • Roadnet routing experience preferred.
    • Maintains a Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with proper endorsements at all times.
    • Familiar with Microsoft Products (preferably Office 2007) with the ability to learn new systems/software applications quickly.
    • Class B Commercial Driver’s License and DOT Medical Certification required; Class A Commercial Driver's License preferred

 

  • Analysis/Problem Solving: Must be able to tolerate frequent interruptions while maintaining cheerful, competent and efficient service.  Must be flexible and able to deal with changing priorities based on our customers and associates needs. Effective oral and written communication skills to exchange information in a clear and concise manner with all levels of associates at J&B.  Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive and negative situations.  Be an active listener. Must possess strong organization skills, attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

 

  • Decision Making: Decisions are made independently, however, it is critical to communicate necessary information to the transportation manager and coworkers.  Demonstrates the ability to train and mentor transportation associates.  Directly supervises truck drivers.  Responsibilities include employment decisions, disciplinary actions, writing and conducting performance evaluations, recognition, objective setting and associate development; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Upholds good leadership skills; effective written and verbal communication skills.  Handles multiple projects and set priorities for project specific timelines.   

 

  • Communication and Reasoning Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Other environmental requirements:
    • Travel 10-20%
