Transportation Maintenance Supervisor Needed
Location: Champlain Valley School District
Champlain Valley School District is seeking an experienced and dedicated Transportation Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance and repair of our entire fleet. This is a critical leadership role that ensures the safety, compliance, and readiness of our school buses and support vehicles.
The Transportation Maintenance Supervisor will supervise and perform proper maintenance and repair of the District's transportation fleet. This position is responsible for directing the work of up to two mechanics, overseeing maintenance programs, coordinating facility operations, and ensuring strict compliance with all federal and state Department of Transportation (DOT) maintenance requirements. The Transportation Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Transportation Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate all fleet maintenance activities, prioritizing work to maximize equipment utilization and prevent operational delays.
- Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) programs for all vehicles and equipment.
- Train, plan, and assign work to up to two mechanics, holding responsibility for the quality of their repairs.
- Serve in an advisory role for staff evaluation, hiring, and termination.
- Coordinate and direct the service and repair of all unplanned vehicle maintenance needs.
- Perform regular inspections and maintenance on the diverse fleet (buses, trucks, cars, tractors, etc.).
- Troubleshoot problems with malfunctioning equipment and perform necessary repairs or obtain outside assistance.
- Perform tasks like vehicle bodywork, procuring necessary parts, and fabricating custom attachments.
- Maintain hands-on involvement with vehicle operation and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records, including vehicle mileage and fuel usage.
- Direct activities concerning the acquisition of equipment and the operation of storage facilities.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree plus 2 to 3 years of commercial vehicle maintenance and supervisory experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Valid Vermont Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Must maintain excellent driving skills and a clean driving record, with experience driving in all weather conditions.
