    General Responsibilities/Job Summary:

    Responsible for managing all aspects of transportation services offered to students in or attending Elizabethtown Area School District. This position requires a "hands on" administrator who possesses an understanding of scheduling, routing, logistics, ability to develop/implement procedures, and make decisions based on data analysis to provide safe and efficient transportation for all students in the district.

    Essential Functions/Duties:
    ?  Develop and administer the transportation program to meet requirements of state regulations, instructional programs, and extracurricular activities.
    ?  Develop and maintain current bus schedules, safe and efficient bus routes, and a list of students, eligible for transportation, including those with special needs & homeless, as well as assign stops for new students or students with a change of address.

    ?  Develop and administer a thorough communications system to all parents/guardians to keep them updated on the transportation of their student.
    ?  Refine routing and scheduling of buses and stops for public and private school students throughout the year to improve efficiency while communicating all updates.
    ?  Confirm that all students, as well as principals or designees, receive busing information (bus #, route, bus stop, etc.) each summer and update information throughout the year.

    ?  Ensure all problems related to transportation of students are addressed and resolved, in a timely manner, at the lowest appropriate level.

    ?  Maintain open and proactive communication with parents, principals & transportation contractors pertaining to transportation issues.

    ?  Maintain bus driver clearances and records.

    ?  Ensure student's Individualized Health Plans are on their assigned bus.

    ?  Assign bus stops for alternate care and dual custody students.
    ?  Maintain computer records for students, bus stops, bus routes, and bus runs; prepare reports and submit to state and local agencies.
    ?  Assist in the maintenance and coordination of all required paperwork between the district and the school bus contractor.

    ?  Coordinate transportation for field trips and extracurricular activities.
    ?  Function as the district point of contact for the bus contractor in the event of any bus-related incident (e.g. accident, injury, mechanical malfunction, etc.).

    • Maintain a record of the number of students on each bus to appropriately calculate the yearly weighted average for PDE reimbursement purposes.
      Represent the district at local and state transportation meetings or events.
    • Appropriately handle confidential information.
    • Complete reports for the District and PDE.
      Perform other duties as assigned.

      Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  
    • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
    • Must possess experience or training in logistics, project management, and budgeting
      Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with principals, vendors, bus drivers, and associates

      Ability to multi-task and problem solve
      Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and in working relations with associates, district staff, vendors and general public
      Skill in reviewing and evaluating contractor proposals
      Skill in using routing and gps software products.
      Computer and Software skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite, School Messenger,  Google docs, sheets & formsin an Apple environment
       Ability to maintain required administrative and operational records
      Ability to read labels, correspondence, instructions, manuals

      Minimum Qualifications:
      Education and Training: Bachelor's degree preferred
      Experience: School District operations experience preferred
      Required Certification/Licenses: Valid PA Driver's License
      Travel Requirements: Travel within the District and in Lancaster County 

       

      Physical and Mental Job Requirements:

    • Ability to demonstrate complex math skills
      Ability to mostly sit with some walking, standing or moving throughout the work environment
      Typically requires close visual acuity involved with preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen and extensive reading
      Some, crouching, stooping, twisting, reaching and grasping
      Some lifting, up to 20 pounds
      Manual dexterity and repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding
      Able to receive and deliver detailed information through written and oral communications Able to function at a high level in a fast paced work environment

      Working Conditions:
      - School office setting, may include hallways,bus loop and school grounds
      - Outdoor work includes hot and cold conditions as well as exposure to hazardous weather
