What’s the role
Shell is seeking a Supply Chain Specialist (internally referred to as Supply Chain Commercial Lead – Americas). This role is an asset-based position located at the Sarnia, Ontario Asset, with site-specific departmental support responsibilities. It will also oversee contracting activities across the Canada region, including the Scotford, Alberta and Sarnia, Ontario Assets.

Shell Chemicals and Products Refining is a vital segment of Shell's global operations, transforming crude oil and feedstocks into fuels, petrochemicals, and specialty chemicals, while continuously updating its portfolio to include sustainable chemicals made from bio-based and circular feedstocks to support low-carbon and sustainability and goals.
Within Canada, the team manages a large 3rd party spend portfolio through a robust supply chain infrastructure spanning multiple warehouses in country and suppliers across the world. The team ensures efficient delivery of services and products to the sites such as materials, equipment, maintenance services, project services, as well as warehousing and logistics solutions.
In addition, this role currently offers a hybrid schedule, allowing you to work remotely 1–2 days per week and on-site at the Shell Sarnia refinery for the remaining 3-4 days.
Accountabilities:
Execute sourcing and contracting processes and optimize buying channels: Ensure smooth execution of pre-award and post-award activities as per the company’s Category Management and Contracting Process framework. This includes assessing demand and supply, developing and selecting strategies, sourcing goods/services, negotiating and awarding agreements, implementing the contract, and managing the contract(s) once finalized
Obtain appropriate approvals for strategy and award within the company governance structure. Prioritize efficient buying channels and assess demand patterns to select the most suitable channel for cost-effective procurement aligned with the relevant category strategy
Drive value creation and risk management: Focus not only on initial contract commercial pricing but also on post-award contract management to enhance supplier performance and foster a performance culture, improving total cost of ownership for the assets
Assess market risks, ensure compliance, and implement mitigation strategies for supply chain continuity and business resilience such as labor imbalances, and material/equipment scarcity Manage contractual risks by ensuring adherence to legal and Shell requirements for terms and conditions and address issues through escalation processes for seamless contract implementation and operational alignment
Engage suppliers and markets: Profile suppliers and assess market conditions to strengthen relationships and unlock competitive advantages. Use data-driven approaches and strategic supplier management for optimized procurement outcomes and long-term partnerships
Collaborate strategically: Align procurement strategies with business objectives by working closely with all stakeholders (multi-site) and contract owners/holders. Demonstrate strong stakeholder management skills such as communication, conflict management, and leveraging data/insights to influence others
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field. A Supply Chain designation is considered an asset
At least 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in the oil and gas and/or mining industries
Experience developing and implementing sourcing strategies, including commercial negotiations and contract structuring
Skilled in managing the source-to-contract process, contract implementation, and performance oversight
Strong business acumen with proven commercial delivery and execution excellence
Expertise in supply chain and commercial operations with advanced negotiation skills
The base salary range for this position is $92,600 - $139,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
