Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):

Flaten Art Museum (FAM) seeks a summer student employee to assist with a variety of museum operations and preparation for the coming exhibition season.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Staff museum and special events during Commencement weekend 
  • Work closely with Collections Manager and Director/Curator to prepare for exhibitions and programs
  • Gather images for FAM’s webpages and print/web/social promotion 
  • Publish exhibitions and events on FAM’s website and create corresponding listings for the St. Olaf calendar
  • Compile attendance and curricular engagement data for annual reporting 
  • Assist with annual upkeep of collections storage areas 
  • Prep, patch and paint galleries
  • Assist with art handling activities across campus 
  • Other related duties as assigned

     

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

  • Experience working at the Flaten Art Museum or equivalent experience required
  • Effective time-management skills, detail-oriented
  • Self-motivated, initiates tasks without being asked
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction
  • Proficiency with Office Suite, WordPress web editing 
  • Strong written and visual communication skills 
  • Experience with gallery prep, art handling
  • Available 17-18 hours/week from May 25–June 14; August 15–September 4
  • Must be current St. Olaf College student returning next fall
