POSITION 26S89 TITLE: Summer Bus Operator (Up to six depending on enrollment, need, and logistics)
LOCATION: Countywide (Summer School Program)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The school bus operator shall maintain positive work habits, perform duties efficiently and productively and maintain and/or upgrade skills. Further, it shall be the duty of the school bus operator to:
1. Obey all traffic laws
2. Observe all Federal, State and Local safety regulations for school buses
3. Maintain discipline, within county practices and guidelines, when students are on bus
4. Assist special education students as needed
5. Report to proper authorities any student involved in misconduct
6. Keep his/her bus clean both inside and out
7. Run on time, the bus schedule as assigned to him/her
8. Perform pre-trip inspections before each run as prescribed by State and Local regulations
9. Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness
10. Discharge students only at stops authorized by the Transportation Supervisor
11. Exercise responsible leadership when on extra-curricular school trips
12. Transport only students authorized to ride the school bus
13. Report all accidents and complete all required State and Local accident reports
14. Attend, and actively participate in, all in-service training classes provided by State and County school officials
15. Attend all staff meetings called by the Transportation Supervisor, and faithfully complete all records, schedules, and other paperwork required
16. Other duties and assignments may be made by the Transportation Supervisor, as deemed necessary and appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS: Each operator shall familiarize himself/herself with and abide by the contents of the handbook, West Virginia School Transportation Regulations.
A school bus operator must hold a valid WV Commercial Driver's License with passenger and school bus endorsements along with a current WVDE School Bus Operator Certification. The operator must meet all training, health, and age requirements of the State and Local Boards of Education. All bus operators must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the State of WV and administered by a licensed, CDL certified physician, drug and alcohol testing, and State and Federal background checks.

EMPLOYMENT TERM: 16 days of employment. June 22, 2026, is a planning/training day this position must report, and then Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays from June 23, 2026, through July 23, 2026. Mandatory bus training will occur June 22. Hours are approximately 6:30 am â 9:30 am and 2:00 pm â 5:00 pm to include pre-route inspection time, bus custodian care time, and county inspection time.
