Be a part-time staff member for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation! The Northern Recreations and Leisure Services Division is hiring enthusiastic and reliable staff to support a variety of our community special events and mobile recreation programs. Positions are located in Watkins Regional Park. Work part-time during evenings, days, or weekends.

Covering more than 850 acres, Watkins Regional Park features the Chesapeake Carousel, Old Maryland Farm, miniature train, miniature golf course, lighted softball fields, practice softball field, lighted football/soccer field, outdoor basketball courts, lighted indoor tennis courts, Watkins Tennis Bubble, campsites, picnic areas with shelters, playgrounds, comfort stations, a paved, 1-7-mile circuitous hiker/biker trail, as well as miles of trail through deciduous forest. 

Applicants must meet minimum age requirements listed for each position (age 21 in some cases). Salaries vary by position and experience.

Examples of Important Duties

  • All positions include the tasks of daily opening and closing duties, safe operation of the rides, fiscal accountability for ticket sales, and cleanliness of the overall facility. 
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal with large volumes of patrons in an outdoor setting are a must. Includes day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours. 

Special Events Staff ($17.00): Provide program support and customer service for special events  such as concerts, movie nights, KinderFest, Festival of Lights, Walk/runs, and any special events and assignments.

Special Events Face Painter ($20.00): Performs face-painting services for special events, ensuring quality presentation, positive customer interactions, and adherence to safety and sanitation standards.

Skate & Game Mobile Program Driver ($17.00): Drives, sets up, and operates mobile skate and game program equipment for community events while ensuring safe operation and proper equipment handling. Driver's license mandatory and in good standing.

Amusement Ride Operator ($15.45): Operates and monitors train and carousel amusement rides at Watkins Regional Park in compliance with established safety procedures while assisting guests and maintaining orderly operations.

Watkins Summer Operations Front Desk Representative ($15.45): Provides front-line customer service at the Watkins Regional Park front desk by assisting visitors with admissions, information inquiries, transactions, and general park operations

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Candidates must be at least 16 years old at the time of hire. 

Training provided by M-NCPPC. 

  • All hires must attain First Aid, CPR and AED certifications and attend mandatory pre-service training. 
  • Cashiers must complete Parks Direct training Ride Operators must become fully competent with ride operations and safety guidelines/manuals. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working Conditions/Environment

  • Indoor and outdoor work in all seasons, including exposure to heat, cold, sunlight, and inclement weather.
  • Frequent work during large public events with high levels of guest interaction and activity.
  • Noise levels may vary from moderate to loud depending on event type (concerts, festivals, mobile recreation programs).
  • Standing, walking, bending, or lifting for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift or move equipment, supplies, or event materials (typically up to 25–40 lbs., depending on the assignment).
  • Frequent loading/unloading and setup of mobile program equipment.
  • Safe operation of vehicle and physical handling of program components
