What You'll Do:
Oversee daily maintenance shop operations, ensuring compliance with university policies, safety standards, and industry regulations.
Supervise and coordinate workflow for vehicle maintenance, repairs, and upfitting across a broad fleet.
Manage staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
Monitor inventory, maintain accurate service records, and prepare reports on performance and cost analysis.
Develop strategies to improve productivity and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
Oversee quality assurance processes, including inspections and safety checks.
Collaborate on budgeting, cost estimates, and long-term planning for equipment and staffing needs.
Implement and enforce maintenance policies and procedures; investigate and resolve maintenance-related complaints.
Manage vehicle incident and accident reporting, including coordination with Risk Management.
Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and implement preventive measures.
Provide staff training on vehicle care and ensure emergency/after-hours coverage.
Coordinate with departments on equipment specifications, procurement, and resource planning.
Lead cross-departmental collaboration and support outreach initiatives.

• Understands linkage between daily activities and achievement of annual objectives of department/work unit and explains to direct reports
• Focus on ISU’s mission and meeting department or work unit goals
• Supervises a small department or work team
• Often is a working supervisor with direct, previous experience performing work of those supervised
• Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel; may share part of responsibility with higher level management
• Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy
