Role Overview

Arcadis is seeking a motivated Senior Transit Planner with approximately 8 years of relevant experience to join our Transit Planning team in Toronto. As an organized, independent contributor you will lead technical work on service plans, feasibility studies, transportation master plans, and infrastructure programs across modes (bus, LRT, BRT, heavy rail, metro/subway). The role includes client-facing responsibilities, strong project management skills, an emphasis on innovation, and periodic travel as required. There is scope to mentor junior staff and potentially take on a direct report.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver transit planning tasks: policy and planning review, data collection, ridership and network analysis, and service development across modes
  • Prepare and contribute to technical deliverables: needs assessments, network development reports, business cases, visioning & master plans, and consultation summaries
  • Plan, support and lead stakeholder and public consultation activities; prepare presentation materials, synthesize feedback, and translate input into recommendations
  • Develop and apply multi-criteria evaluation frameworks and KPIs to compare alternatives and support decision-making
  • Produce mapping, GIS deliverables and visualizations to support analysis and client communications
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (planning, civil/rail engineering, active transportation, safety, traffic modeling, systems, placemaking) to deliver integrated, implementable solutions
  • Support and collaborate with other disciplines to assist in the planning and development of larger transit infrastructure projects (e.g., station design interfaces, corridor planning, depot/yard planning, systems integration)
  • Support proposal development and business development activities; build and maintain strong client relationships through professional, responsive engagement
  • Maintain and apply up-to-date knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in transit planning, technology, equity, accessibility, and sustainability; champion innovative approaches on projects
  • Manage multiple tasks and project workstreams independently, ensuring high-quality, timely deliverables and adherence to scope and budget
  • Mentor junior staff, contribute to team knowledge-sharing and practice development
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning or related discipline
  • Eligibility for Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is sufficient
  • ~8 years of progressive experience in transit/transportation planning, service planning, and/or transit infrastructure studies with demonstrated project management capabilities
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to create clear, visually effective reports and client presentations in English
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with ArcGIS strongly preferred; familiarity with transit modeling/analysis tools (e.g., TransCAD, VISUM, VISSIM) and data analysis tools is an asset
  • Demonstrated client-facing experience and confidence presenting to stakeholders and public audiences
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced consulting environment
  • Demonstrated interest and capability in applying innovative technologies and approaches to transit challenges, including equity and sustainability lenses
