With a strong presence across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Montana, our team works closely with livestock operators, building long-standing relationships and delivering innovative nutrition solutions and high-quality feed products that support on-farm success.

 

Why we have this role:

 

We’re looking for a Senior Procurement Specialist to play a key role in supporting and expanding our Western Canadian business while contributing to a national procurement strategy across the GVF Group.

 

In this role, you will act as a strategic partner across the Western Canada operations, driving procurement excellence and ensuring alignment with national sourcing strategies. You will take ownership of customer-specific commodity procurement, including key feed inputs such as lysine, methionine, and other critical ingredients.

 

This is an opportunity to combine market insight, supplier strategy, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure a reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality supply of ingredients that support our customers and operations.

 

Working with us:

 

While this role is posted in Winnipeg, Manitoba, we are open to candidates based anywhere in Manitoba or Alberta.

Given the scope of our Western operations, which span multiple provinces and extend into the U.S., this position requires regular travel throughout the Western Region, along with occasional travel to Ontario.

 

What you’ll do: 

Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management



  • Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and sustainability.
  • Manage procurement of key commodities including amino acids, vitamins, and minerals.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and payment terms.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while monitoring performance through KPIs.
  • Ensure accurate supplier data within systems.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of national procurement processes and best practices.

 

Demand Planning & Procurement Execution



  • Collaborate with operations and cross-functional teams to forecast material requirements.
  • Analyze historical data and market trends to anticipate demand fluctuations.
  • Develop procurement plans aligned with production schedules, lead times, and seasonality.
  • Execute customer-specific sourcing strategies aligned with pricing and supply commitments.
  • Establish and enforce purchasing policies and procedures to improve efficiency and consistency.

 

Risk Management



  • Monitor commodity markets, exchange rates, and supply trends to identify risks.
  • Provide forecasting insights to support financial planning and currency positioning.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate price volatility (hedging, supplier diversification).
  • Identify supply chain vulnerabilities and develop contingency plans.
  • Partner with leadership to proactively manage procurement risks across the business.

 

Pricing & Market Intelligence



  • Partner with the Pricing team to align procurement costs with customer pricing strategies.
  • Provide timely market insights to support business decision-making.
  • Maintain and update pricing models based on ingredient categories and market conditions.
  • Support national pricing strategies across micro and macro ingredient categories.

 

Reporting & Analytics



  • Analyze procurement data to identify trends, risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Deliver regular reporting on supplier performance, market conditions, and procurement effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with IT to enhance reporting tools (Power BI) for improved visibility and decision-making.

 
Your background includes:

  • University degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Agriculture, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain
  • Experience in agriculture, animal nutrition, or commodity-based industries is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of commodity markets, pricing volatility, and supply risk
  • Proven experience negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships
  • Ability to translate procurement insights into pricing and margin impacts
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills
  • Experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Excel and Power BI
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-location environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel across Canada and the U.S.
