DescriptionThe Section Manager will oversee various functions related to electricity and gas hedging. The Hedging group is a part of Commodity Operations and is responsible for providing and hedging reliable and economic fuel and energy products including supply and capacity, for the Companys gas, electric and steam full service customers in a manner consistent with regulatory goals for achieving a competitive energy market; and to participate in policy initiatives that are pivotal to the energy industry. The selected candidate must have excellent communication skills as well as strong analytical and computer skills. Must be well organized and detail oriented. Must be able to critically think and help shape new programs. Must have experience leading teams. Must have experience creating and presenting PowerPoint slide decks to Executive Leadership. Must have the ability to interact effectively with counterparties, internal partners, support staff, regulators, and various levels of management.
ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team responsible for executing energy, capacity, and fuel hedging strategies for CECONY and O&R in accordance with approved Hedge Plans and Manuals.
- Provide direction, coaching, and performance management for team members, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and development of technical expertise in commodity markets and hedging practices.
- Oversee development and execution of short- and long-term supply strategies, including the 10-Year Electricity Supply Plan and Electricity/Gas Hedge Plans.
- Direct procurement activities for physical and financial energy, capacity, and environmental products (e.g., RGGI, RECs, CSAPR), including RFPs and online auction processes.
- Guide market analysis efforts, ensuring continuous monitoring of wholesale electricity, natural gas, and financial commodity markets, and integrating insights into procurement and hedging strategies.
- Ensure team compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirements (e.g., NYISO, PSC, NYSERDA, NERC, SOX, CLCPA, NJ RPS, RGGI), maintaining audit-ready documentation and supporting internal/external audits.
- Oversee financial and operational analysis, including position reporting, mark-to-market, true-ups, volatility assessments, and long-range planning support.
- Manage the development and enhancement of databases, models, and reporting tools, prioritizing improvements that drive efficiency and analytical capability.
- Review and approve reports, presentations, regulatory filings, and expert testimony to support rate cases and other proceedings.
- Act as a senior representative and decision-maker, collaborating with internal leadership, regulators, suppliers, and industry groups on strategic and cross-functional initiatives.
QualificationsRequired Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and A minimum of 8 years of work experience or
- Master's Degree and A minimum of 6 years of work experience
Relevant Work Experience
- Experience developing and troubleshooting Excel worksheets is required.
- Strong analytical and computer skills, particularly with Excel is required.
- Experience in creating and presenting PowerPoint slides is required.
- Supervisory/Manager experience leading teams in informal settings is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications- Driver's License Required

- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
