Position Summary: The Regional Director of Operations is responsible for the overall management of all Massachusetts Maplewood communities. In addition to comprehensive leadership of the communities, this person is responsible for the fiscal success, ensuring regulatory compliance, and acquisition and development of talent. This will include, but is not limited to, implementing processes and procedures to optimize operational systems, drive profitability through sales and occupancy goals, expense management, associate, resident and family relations, market analysis, maintenance and upkeep of the communities’ physical plant and adheres to first impression standards, embodies Maplewood core values and standards, and enhances the identification and development of best-in-class talent.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identifies trends and partner with the Community Operating Team to develop, monitor, and execute action plans
  • Completes, analyzes and distributes weekly labor variance reports to ensure staffing levels are adjusted accordingly by community
  • Complies, analyzes and distributes weekly spend down reports to ensure proper expense control by community
  • Flash forecasts community-specific P&L reports twice monthly
  • Forecasts monthly and quarterly P&L statements
  • Assists SVP of Community Operations with monthly review of community specific P&L, CQE audits, and day to day compliance of communities
  • Understands and demonstrates operating efficiencies and expense control; manages/leads net operating income
  • Develops and implements annual operating and capital budgets
  • Tracks capital expenditure budget balances
  • Compiles and analyzes annual wage adjustment proposals
  • Leverages purchasing possibilities through existing and new vendors
  • In conjunction with the VP of Marketing and Sales, ED, and Community Relations Director of each community, effectively manages occupancy through sales and marketing initiatives, identification of critical success factors, Marketing Action Plans, etc.
  • Manages, builds, and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders, leadership, associates, residents, and families
  • Demonstrates innovative, entrepreneurial thinking in response to competitive trends and business development opportunities
  • Tracks and responds to market trends and partners with peers to determine creative solutions for Marketing Action Plan
  • Effectively develops talent by training, mentoring, and providing guidance to Department Heads and Executive Directors and manages succession planning
  • Responsible for leading recruitment efforts and staffing solutions for all levels of the communities
  • Manages employee performance through the use of coaching, performance reviews, action plans, and progressive disciplinary procedures
  • Implements and adheres to training program expectations and related compliance tracking for all communities
  • Acts as a liaison with accounting department to answer questions and troubleshoot field accounting issues
  • Serves as a liaison between the field and senior management to effectively presents operating results to senior management
  • Researches the root causes of problems and develops plans and action steps to enhance performance. Takes the lead in any investigations while effectively communicating to relevant parties and provides timely responses to all crisis situations

Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Human Resources Administration, Gerontology or other course of study that relates to service to the elderly, preferred
  • At least 5-7 years of successful operations leadership experience specific to independent, assistance, Alzheimer’s, CCRC communities or related fields
  • At least 2- 3 years of prior Executive Director experience preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge of senior living environment regulations and guidelines (regulations, OSHA)
  • Demonstrates computer literacy and familiarity with a variety of office software, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, data base managers and presentation software.
  • Demonstrates financial acumen by reviewing operational and financial data and developing a strategy to maximize performance
  • Possesses leadership, associate relations, and management skills while maintaining working knowledge of any applicable HR laws and regulations (compliance and labor law, etc.)
