Position Purpose:
The Receiving Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all inbound warehouse operations to ensure materials are received, inspected, documented, and stored accurately and efficiently. This role manages receiving staff, coordinates inbound shipments, maintains inventory accuracy, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The supervisor works closely with supply chain, purchasing, and operations teams to support smooth material flow and maintain optimal warehouse organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Receiving & Inbound Operations
- Supervise daily warehouse receiving operations including unloading, inspection, documentation, and system entry of inbound materials.
- Coordinate inbound deliveries with purchasing, logistics, and carriers to ensure efficient dock scheduling.
- Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing lists, and delivery documentation to ensure accuracy.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies such as shortages, damages, or incorrect shipments.
- Ensure materials are properly labeled, staged, and moved to designated storage locations.
- Maintain accurate receiving records and ensure timely entry into ERP systems.
Inventory Management
- Ensure proper put-away procedures are followed to maintain accurate inventory levels and location control.
- Direct team members to stock shelves and transfer inventory properly within the warehouse.
- Conduct and supervise cycle counts based on receiving activity and material movement.
- Assist with monthly and annual physical inventory counts.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
Warehouse Operations & Process Improvement
- Develop and implement efficient receiving processes to improve workflow and reduce handling time.
- Determine optimal storage locations for newly received materials.
- Maintain organized receiving docks, staging areas, and warehouse storage locations.
- Support lean warehouse practices to improve operational efficiency and space utilization.
- Order and maintain necessary warehouse supplies including labeling, packaging, and receiving materials.
Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise, train, and cross-train receiving warehouse employees to ensure operational continuity.
- Provide coaching, performance feedback, and development opportunities for team members.
- Ensure staff follow proper receiving procedures, safety protocols, and company policies.
- Assist in scheduling staff based on inbound workload and operational needs.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations including DOT, Hazmat, and company safety policies.
- Maintain forklift certification training and refresher schedules for warehouse employees.
- Maintain forklift inspection and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Ensure the receiving dock and warehouse areas remain clean, organized, and safe.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Communicate inbound shipment status and discrepancies with purchasing, supply chain, and operations teams.
- Coordinate with inventory control and warehouse teams to ensure smooth material flow.
- Support shipping and outbound operations when required.
Essential Skills, Education & Experience
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of warehouse or distribution experience, with 3+ years supervising receiving or warehouse operations.
- Experience with inventory control and warehouse management systems.
- Experience with JD Edwards ERP system preferred.
- Knowledge of international shipments and import documentation preferred.

- Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications
- Forklift operator certification (provided on the job).
- Knowledge of safety, DOT, and Hazmat regulations.
