Under general supervision, this position coordinates the engineering and support activities for various projects and/or programs.
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
Communicates project and/or program information to internal and external customers.
Assists in the development and monitoring of project and/or program budgets by completing assignments that may include processing a pay application or monitoring and updating the assigned project budget.
Assists in the development of short- and long-range plans on projects or works on routine projects whereby techniques used are well known and present no unusual engineering problems.
Assists in the development and implementation of operating policies and procedures by providing input as a team member of an established process improvement team.
Ensures compliance with City and other regulatory agency requirements and policies by verifying that regulatory/permitting processes have been identified and permits or approvals acquired for assigned project.
Coordinates development/reviews construction or engineering related contracts, contract documents, and Developer Agreements by reviewing preparing and processing project change orders to projects if change orders are appropriate and in compliance or applying technical quality control review.
Coordinates and evaluates plans, criteria, schedules, etc. for a variety of projects, Programs, and plans or a division and/or section activities.
Assists in the resolution of conflicts and difficult situations by providing supporting documentation, policies and procedures.
Develops, maintains, and improves City of Austin design and construction standards.
Provides technical advice and assistance.
May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a related field, plus three (3) years of experience in construction, engineering, architecture, or related work.
Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
May require a valid Texas driver license.
Experience with contract management, including preparing purchase orders, invoice processing and budget monitoring.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing competing tasks and meeting deadlines. Experience coordinating multiple projects and activities simultaneously.
Experience facilitating project coordination meetings and maintaining project documentation, including meeting notes, action items, and status updates for project teams and stakeholders.
Experience interpreting construction drawings and diagrams, including traffic signal design and traffic control plans.
Experience using City software applications such as eCAPRIS, AMANDA, the AB+C permitting system, AIMS/Advantage, GIS applications, Knack applications, and Microsoft Office.
Experience conducting field visits and coordinating with contractors and field crews to monitor project progress, verify work activities, and support issue resolution
The Project Coordinator position is part of the Arterial Management Division (AMD) within the Transportation and Public Works Department and supports the Program Management Team in delivering projects across the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and routine maintenance portfolio.
This position coordinates work within AMD and with external partners, including other Transportation and Public Works divisions, contractors, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro), and private development partners.
The Project Coordinator will support multiple project managers and assist with project implementation from initiation through close-out. Responsibilities include preparing cost estimates, creating and reviewing work orders, monitoring project budgets, preparing financial documentation, coordinating meetings with contractors and stakeholders, and supporting project close-out activities.
This role helps ensure projects are delivered efficiently and supports AMD in meeting program delivery goals. The position also includes periodic field visits to coordinate, monitor, and support ongoing project and maintenance activities.
Driving Requirement:
This position requires a valid Texas driver license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Essential Employee: This position is considered an “Essential” role and is essential to the operations of the City based on the preparation, response, and recovery phase of extraordinary situations or emergency conditions. As an employee that has been designated as “Essential” the expectation will be to work at a designated work site during declared extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to serve the community. Essential Employees during emergencies play a role in ensuring the public health, safety, and welfare of our community and ensuring City operations continue.
Pay Rate: $32.96 - $41.20
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Hours may vary depending on departmental needs and initiatives.
