Job Description

The Procurement Buyer is responsible for executing and leading sourcing and procurement activities for assigned categories and suppliers while serving as a subject‑matter expert within the procurement organization. The role maintains hands‑on responsibility for purchasing and procurement execution, while also driving efficiency, standardization, and continuous improvement across sourcing, transactional purchasing, and supplier management processes. 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

Purchasing & Procurement Execution 

  • Create, review, and manage purchase orders and requisitions in ERP/MRP systems in accordance with established procedures and approval workflows. 
  • Ensure accuracy of pricing, quantities, lead times, contractual terms, and supplier information. 
  • Oversee tracking of order confirmations, shipments, and delivery dates; proactively follow up on exceptions and risks. 
  • Serve as a key point of escalation for supplier communications related to orders, delivery issues, and documentation. 
  • Support and enforce compliance with procurement policies, contracts, internal controls, and audit requirements. 

Sourcing & Commercial Leadership 

  • Lead complex RFQs/RFPs and sourcing initiatives aligned with category strategies. 
  • Conduct advanced commercial and price negotiations, including multi‑variable negotiations (price, terms, service, risk). 
  • Identify and deliver sustainable cost‑saving and value‑creation initiatives. 
  • Support contract review, negotiation, and governance in collaboration with Legal and stakeholders. 

Process Efficiency, Standardization & Continuous Improvement 

  • Identify opportunities to improve sourcing, purchasing, and supplier management processes. 
  • Develop and promote standardized sourcing approaches, templates, tools, and best practices. 
  • Lead or support process improvement initiatives to drive efficiency, scalability, and consistency. 
  • Contribute to the development of standardized reporting, analytics, and dashboards for the procurement team. 

Supplier Relationship & Risk Management 

  • Lead SRM activities with key and strategic suppliers. 
  • Manage supplier performance across cost, delivery, quality, and service metrics. 
  • Lead supplier business reviews and corrective action planning. 
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate supplier, supply chain, and commercial risks. 

Category, Market & Data Analysis 

  • Analyze spend, cost drivers, and market trends to support category strategy execution. 
  • Develop and apply cost models and market benchmarks. 
  • Use procurement and supply chain data to inform sourcing, negotiation, and risk decisions. 

Material Planning & Supply Risk Support 

  • Act as a key partner to material planning, production, and operations teams. 
  • Analyze supply, demand, and inventory data to identify availability risks. 
  • Support proactive mitigation actions and adjustments to production plans to minimize disruption and customer impact. 

Coaching, Mentorship & Capability Development 

  • Coach and mentor Buyers and Purchasing Coordinators on purchasing execution, sourcing, negotiation, and supplier management. 
  • Support onboarding and skill development to improve consistency and quality of procurement execution. 
  • Share best practices and act as a resource for complex purchasing or supplier challenges. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant work experience in related field.
  • Proficiency in leading ERP software (IFS/SAP etc.). 
  • Familiarity with MRP and Master Data in a Purchasing function. 
  • Understanding of documentation and processes supporting material planning. 
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 5+ year of relevant work experience in supply chain or purchasing 
  • Experience in a global manufacturing or biotech organization.

Additional Information

Pay range for this role is:

Minimum pay rate: USD$ 72,000/ per year

Maximum pay rate: USD$ 97,000/ per year

The salary range provided covers the minimum and maximum amounts projected for this role. The base salary will be influenced by factors like experience, skills, and location.
