Under general supervision, performs difficult professional work related to the design, construction, and management of multiple complex transportation projects. This position is responsible for independently managing and guiding the successful completion of complex construction and engineering transportation projects on time and within budget. Position may include the supervision of other project management and transportation staff. Employee is responsible for providing customer service to residents impacted by construction activities. Reports to the Director of Transportation.
Bachelor’s Degree with coursework emphasis in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field and six (6) years of relevant experience in construction management, engineering, project inspection, transportation engineering, transportation planning, or contract administration preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute or a Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
Must possess or be able to obtain within six (6) months from the start of employment a VDOT Locally Administered Project (LAP) Qualification Program Certification.
Must possess and maintain a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and tools, such as a motor vehicle, computer, printer, copy machine, fax machine, calculator, telephone, or surveying equipment. Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually, with job-related equipment. Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using job-related equipment and operating motor vehicles. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, job-related equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motions while coordinating the other hand with different activities. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving the nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone.
