Job Description

The City of Raleigh is looking for a motivated Park Operations Specialist to carry out various responsibilities, including managing park operations and natural resources, delivering customer service, and overseeing outdoor recreation programs. This role is vital to our team, as the Park Operations Specialist plays a significant part in our mission to serve the community. Park Operations Specialists are considered Essential Staff and are responsible for supervising a facility and park when full-time staff are unavailable. Forest Ridge spans roughly 600 acres of wooded parkland featuring hiking and mountain biking trails, a welcome center, picnic shelters, and a playground equipped with restroom facilities. Ideal candidates will be able to prioritize effectively when confronted with multiple tasks. A successful candidate will also utilize risk management skills in their daily operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledge:
Possessing an understanding of outdoor settings and a readiness to engage in those areas. Recognize the importance of outdoor recreation for community members. 
Skills:
Capable of operating a Personal Utility Vehicle and a Park Truck for park maintenance and various duties. Supports recreation instructors or full-time personnel in delivering diverse programs, such as Fitness, Wellness, Hiking, Mountain Biking, and Nature Education. Provides customer assistance to visitors in various scenarios, including familiarizing them with park facilities, explaining regulations, and detailing program options. 
Abilities:
Competent in managing several tasks and projects effectively. Skilled in problem-solving and conflict resolution, leading to favorable results. Proficient in using a computer and different software applications for administrative responsibilities.

Typical Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates need to be a minimum of 18 years old and have prior experience in customer service. It's important for applicants to have strong verbal and written communication skills. We encourage those with a passion for outdoor activities such as biking, wilderness skills, hiking, or team-building facilitation to submit their applications. This role also requires the ability to lift at least 30 pounds and walk a mile over uneven ground. Additionally, successful candidates will need to secure and keep a City of Raleigh Driver's Permit.

Additional Information:

This is a 15-20-hr a week position with weekend, holiday, and some evening hours required.    Schedule will vary due to park project and programs and needs.
