Description

Bernie’s Book Bank is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated leader to serve as the Operations Manager. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this person is responsible for managing the distribution, processing, volunteer and warehouse operations. This Manager should be committed to helping our mission-driven nonprofit thrive with an emphasis on meeting distribution goals while providing an exceptional volunteer experience.  


Essential Job Responsibilities:

Oversee activities in the Processing Center and manages warehouse to coordinate inventory of incoming books and preparation of books/bags for distribution. The Operations Manager works collaboratively with the Processing Center Team (PC Team), National Procurement team and Partnership Manager regarding volunteer experience and production.  

  • Direct and supervise the Processing Center team, including 3-4 PC members and 1-2 Drivers to ensure goals and standards are being met.
  • Work with Processing Center staff to ensure the welcome desk is staffed and volunteer receive proper training before shifts begin
  • Work with Partnership Manager to track and analyze volunteer and productivity data 
  • Collaborate with the Partnership Manager to ensure that a cohesive distribution strategy is established and followed, that the distribution pipeline is properly prioritized and maximized; that the Distribution Team receives appropriate guidance and leadership, that logistical planning (fuel, mapping, scheduling etc.) is monitored and managed.  
  • Ensure that processing and distribution teams are supported, space is maximized, book and equipment inventory is carefully tracked, and the facility is maintained. 
  • Collaborate with Executive Director to help plan for annual operating budget and track spending against the budget on a monthly basis
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and address revenue generation opportunities with volunteers – both individuals and corporate, taking into account on-site and off-site engagement. 
  • Coordinate and manage groups utilizing event space in conjunction with volunteer opportunities and in partnership with Partnership Manager
  • Contribute to the Operations Leadership Team to ensure Distributions, Back of House, Books and Processing Team’s goals and values are aligned. 
  • All other special projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • MUST have and exude an exceptionally positive, “I CAN/I WILL” attitude.
  • MUST be passionate about our mission to significantly increase BOOK OWNERSHIP among underserved infants, toddlers and school-age children.  
  • MUST understand the value of relationships as the lifeblood of Bernie’s Book Bank.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional teams. 
  • MUST be driven.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • MUST have a minimum of three years supervisory experience.
  • Sound computer skills, proficient in Excel; database management experience; Salesforce preferred.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Compensation: $50,000 - $55,000 anually


Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the Senior Operations Manager will be working in an office/warehouse environment and be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear.  He/She should have a valid driver’s license and should be able to drive a box truck and forklift and be comfortable with the use of pallet jacks and dollies to move inventory around the warehouse and on and off trucks.
