The Opportunity

The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that plant operations meet production and sales demands in a cost-optimized, safe and environmentally responsible manner.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the incumbent oversees operating personnel by clearly defining goals and objectives that promote and maintain an atmosphere of continuous improvement in all areas of operation. Further, the incumbent is responsible to ensure that the plant consistently produces high quality products and services that result in high customer satisfaction.

 What you'll do

  • Defines direction of plant activities and creates alignment with and among team
  • Manages production operations involving multiple resources (physical and human) and tasks
  • Finds opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs
  • Drives continuous improvement by seeking out opportunities to improve existing manufacturing processes
  • Provides input related to new and existing safety initiatives to increase plant safety standards
  • Communicates and builds relationships effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders to successfully fulfill customer orders
  • Is a trusted advisor for internal colleagues and external clients for all production related activities
  • Equips plant personnel with appropriate tools and processes to enable successful plant operations in order to fulfill client orders
  • Focuses on timely execution of high-quality, low-cost customer orders in accordance with Atlantic policies including health and safety
  • Sets well-defined goals, and monitors performance against set goals and key performance indicators
  • Applies a strong understanding of people and performance management processes to set expectations and conduct regular performance reviews with all direct reports
  • Leverages strong understanding of Labour Relations and unions to effectively deal with relevant issues (e.g., collective agreements, grievances)
  • Understands critical factors related to plant operations (e.g., capital projects, hiring, performance, environmental, safety, budgeting etc.) in order to make (or actively support) sound decisions that impact the local site
  • Back-up for the position is the Plant Manager or Operations Manager from other Atlantic Plants as designated by the Vice President of Manufacturing

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a packaging plant manufacturing production environment
  • Manufacturing knowledge with high-speed packaging systems
  • Engineering related university degree (e.g., Mechanical, Process)
  • Proven record of exemplary safety leadership, consistently maintaining incident‑free operations and fostering a culture of accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to maximize production performance while upholding rigorous quality standards and driving cost‑efficient manufacturing outcomes
  • Experienced in developing high‑performing operations teams through effective coaching, capability‑building, and alignment with safety, quality, and environmental objectives
  • Track record of leading continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing systems, operational reliability, and overall plant performance
  • Experience in leading operations-focused teams (e.g., performance management, conflict management, etc.
  • Knowledge of best practices in operations management – asset effectiveness, reduction in cycle times, flexibility of the workforce, etc.

Hiring Range: $101,000 - $126,000 per year. A candidate’s experience and knowledge may be factored into the pay a candidate receives for this position. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
