ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In conjunction with the specialty hospital Executive Director and Director of Nursing, the coordinator will oversee the daily operations the continuum of surgical services and med-surg nursing departments, ensuring high-quality patient care, staff efficiency, and compliance with hospital policies.

Clinical & Operational Leadership:

  • Supervise nursing and support staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and hospital policies.
  • Coordinate surgical case flow to optimize OR efficiency and minimize delays throughout all departments.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing policies and procedures to maintain safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as a liaison between the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other departments to facilitate seamless patient care.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels by assisting with scheduling, assignments, and workload distribution.
  • Monitors work status and progress.
  • Assists in the recruiting, hiring, orientation, development, and evaluation of all staff.
  • Ensures that patients are treated courteously by all staff and that other visitors are screened and properly directed.
  • Ensures that requests for information are handled promptly and effectively.
  • Works with other administrative staff to ensure efforts are coordinated and high-quality patient care is provided.
  • Participates in professional development activities.

Patient Care & Safety:

  • Monitor and evaluate patient care practices to ensure compliance with clinical standards and protocols.
  • Support nursing staff in managing complex patient cases and responding to emergencies.
  • Promote a culture of safety by identifying and addressing potential risks or hazards in the OR.
  • Maintain proper documentation of patient care, safety incidents, and quality improvement measures.

Staff Development & Performance Management:

  • Mentor, coach, and provide ongoing education and training to OR nursing staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and participate in staff disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Assist in onboarding new nurses and ensure competency in surgical procedures and protocols.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.

       

      Quality Improvement & Compliance:

      • Participate in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
      • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and state/federal regulations.
      • Monitor and report on performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
      • Assist in incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions when needed.
      • Assumes other related responsibilities as required and assigned

        EDUCATION

        • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or related field required.

        EXPERIENCE

        • 3+ years of experience in a healthcare or clinical coordination role, preferably in musculoskeletal care or surgical services.

         

      • REQUIREMENTS

        • Licensed clinician (RN) strongly preferred.

        KNOWLEDGE

        • Principles, practices and basic knowledge of nursing services and ancillary departments.
        • Working knowledge of basic hospital administrative functions.
        • Development, coordination and delivery of medical services.
        • Knowledge of musculoskeletal clinical practices, workflows, or rehabilitation care preferred.
        • Government regulations and codes including but not limited to The Joint Commission, DNV, State Agencies, ARRA, COLA, Pharmacy Board, and Nursing Board.

          organizational objectives. 
        • Analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action.
        • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, providers, management and
          the public. 
        • Exercising judgment and discretion on developing, applying, interpreting and coordinating departmental policies and procedures.

        ABILITIES

        • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of professional,
          administrative, technical and clerical staff in both a direct and indirect influential situation. 
        • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, E-mail, and 
          database software in performing work assignments. 
        • Ability to organize and integrate organizational priorities and deadlines.
        • Ability to establish and maintain quality control standards.
        • Ability to assume responsibility and exercise authority over assigned work functions.
        • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data for program tracking.

        ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

        • Work is typically performed in an office, hospital, and clinical environment.
        • Travel to affiliated hospitals, clinics or partner sites may be required.
        • Ability to work flexible hours to support patient education and program activities.

        PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

        • Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Some bending and stretching required. Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard.
