Description

We are looking for a talented Material Working Leader on 2nd Shift to join our team specializing in Logistics for our Cummins Inc. facility in Maxton, NC.

Job Summary:

Acts as a formal resource coordinating others. Coordinates operations through interaction with operations management. Coordinates activities for different areas like Inbound, Outbound, Kitting, etc. based on direction from Operations management.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

•  Leading and engaging in HSE training, raising workforce competence and building an interdependent safety culture.
•  Identifying quality issues early and escalating them, reducing defects, rework, and cost exposure.
•  Ensuring accurate receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping, directly supporting reliable, on time delivery to customers.
•  Driving improvements in safety, quality, process flow, and housekeeping, contributing to a more efficient and stable operation.
•  Collaborating effectively with peers, support teams, and skilled trades, strengthening team performance and keeping equipment in good working condition.

Education, Licenses, Certifications: 
•    High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations. 
•    College, University or equivalent degree in Business, Engineering or related field preferred. 
•    This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. 

Experience: 
•    Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience in a related field such as logistics, warehousing and third party logistics provider management.

The Material Working Leader will assist the team to provide immediate problem resolution and moving work process flow.   The Material Working Leader will be a primary interface between the team, team leader and facilitator in other departments and levels of the organization.

Authority - Directs activities of:

  • Interacts and provides team coordination for production technicians
  • Interfaces between team leaders and department management, including
    • Manufacturing, Industrial and Product Engineering
    • Maintenance & Facilities Engineering
    • IT             
    • Other Support Groups
    • Quality Engineering
    • Materials Logistics
    • Finance

Responsibilities - Essential functions:

Working Leader (supports the production technician directly). Responsible for:

  • Process start-up and control
  • Meet production goals
  • Respond to line stops by team members
  • Confirm quality – routine checks
  • Cover absenteeism, line fill-in - duties include filling in on line when teammates are out and working on autonomous maintenance tasks with the team
  • Training and cross-training
  • Work orders for quick maintenance
  • Ensure standardized work is followed
  • Facilitate small group activities
  • On-going continuous improvement projects
  • Ensure parts/materials are supplied to process–coordinate with Material handlers
  • Support team in building quality in product
  • Update/improve Standard Work standard
  • Continuous improvement activities
  • Provide production support on company projects as required.
  • Plan and recover from assembly line and test equipment system failures.
  • Comply with all Meritor written environmental (ISO 14001) and quality (TS 16949) policies.
  • All other job tasks as required by leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership & communication skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • Other pertinent skill requirements:  Demonstrated problem solving, continuous improvement disciplines, computer literacy and familiarity with SPC techniques.
  • Working Knowledge of all work stations in designated area is preferred.
  • Excellent job performance required.

Must be able to access all areas of the facility and meet other physical requirements of the position and work scheduled overtime requirements.
