Summary:
The Operations Analyst will support the operations teams by identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities through efficiency improvements in route planning and equipment operations. Working closely with the district managers, this position supports a core, foundational component of Miller’s future-state operating strategy and will serve as a key contributor to integrating and executing all aspects of routing solutions and equipment optimization. The Operations Analyst will leverage their deep knowledge of route optimization methods and technologies to ensure technical solutions, processes, and field expectations follow a continuous improvement mindset. Additionally, this role will be eligible to grow into advanced role(s) based on performance, technical and process aptitude, and demonstrated ability to gain support for ideas and influence without direct authority.
Responsibilities:
In the position of Operations Analyst, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Must adhere to Miller Waste System safety protocols and must be familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Provide day-to-day support and play a lead role in executing Miller Waste Systems’ strategic and future state routing goals.
Support workstream activities across Field, IT, and Operations resource groups to deliver on operational objectives.
Working with field and corporate operations, develop comprehensive processes and procedures documents to support route and equipment operations optimization activities.
Support the identification of opportunities and the development of new solutions to drive a more predictive and streamlined operating model.
Document cross-functional requirements that support overall company goals and strategies.
Support or play a lead role in the design, development, testing, execution, and implementation of routing and productivity solutions in collaboration with software providers.
Develop and optimize collection routes using GIS tools and route planning software.
Analyze operational data to identify efficiency gains and cost savings.
Integrate route plans with in-cab systems and telematics for real-time monitoring.
Prepare dashboards and reports on KPIs (missed stops, route duration, fuel usage).
Support field validation and change-management during route adjustments.
Analyze and prepare reports on current operational performance metrics compared to other regions/districts and the budget.
Incorporate AI technology in the route optimization process.
Travel will be required up to 50% of the time.

Competencies & Qualifications:
Experience supporting an enterprise routing or logistics-based technology design and implementation program.
Familiarity with or expertise in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software.
Experience utilizing GIS, Mapping, or Logistics management applications.
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite with advanced proficiency in Excel.
Business degree or diploma.
Understanding of modelling techniques, benchmarking, and statistical analysis.
Experience or knowledge of the waste industry (preferred).
3+ year experience in Transportation, Logistics, or Routing (preferred).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence without formal authority.
