Role Overview:

The Manufacturing Engineer Intern will support several production lines. This will encompass hands-on learning of several types of valves and syringe pumps, and manufacturing processes that precede assembly of both products.  Hands-on experience with testing will also take place. The intern will be encouraged to suggest improvements to processes in machining, assembly, and testing. Training will include proper design practices including 3D design, dimensioning and tolerancing, and drafting.  

Regular updates, in the form of PowerPoint presentations, will occur. A final presentation at the end of the summer will highlight the initial opportunities encountered, improvements that were suggested and implemented, and time and cost savings.

 

Supervision and Mentorship

The intern will receive mentorship, regular check-ins, and development opportunities throughout the internship


Work Environment: Onsite

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn through hands-on experience building products and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Systematically analyze product designs and procedures to troubleshoot failures and develop innovative solutions.
  •  Implement changes in design using 3D CAD, 2D drafting, and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Design fixtures for assembly and testing of products.
  • Research new technologies for streamlining part fabrication, assembly, and testing.
  • Operation of products in a testing environment.
  • Collect and organize test data into coherent reports for engineering evaluation.

 

Learning Objectives/What You Will Gain

  • Gain experience with product manufacturing and assembly processes, including:
    • Proper formatting and content of work instructions.
    • Product assembly.
    • Design and process validation through life cycle testing.
    • Continuous improvement.
  • Proper CAD and drafting techniques.
    • Update 3D CAD models efficiently using known standards and design intent
    • Update drawings for one or more legacy product lines.
  • Identify safety hazards and implement corrective actions appropriately.
  • Effective communication with Microsoft Office tools.

 

Education and Experience

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical mindset.
  • General curiosity for how and why things work, and drive to figure out why they don’t.
  • 3D CAD & 2D drafting (Solidworks or Solid Edge preferred but not required).
  • Hands-on machining and assembly processing (preferred but not required).
  • 3D printing (preferred but not required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

 

Pay range: $24.00/hour
