The Transportation Manager is Responsible for transportation activities on all shifts, ensuring that all functions are performed within Company, Distribution Center, and Department guidelines. Accountable and Reports to: General Manager. 
 

Main responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise transportation activities to include:  maintenance of an economical and efficient transportation system; schedules of inbound and outbound shipments; the purchase or lease of necessary equipment; and fleet maintenance
  • Prepare and administer the department operating budget.  Review repair and maintenance expenditures and make recommendations for major purchases
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate records reflecting fuel costs, mileage, repairs and driver hours
  • Interface with Distribution Center management and staff, other Company distribution and manufacturing centers, and carriers to ensure that the Transportation Department and its schedules run efficiently
  • Develop and implement methods of operation to control costs, effectively utilize personnel and equipment, and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Ensure compliance with regulations governing Transportation area including all DOT drug testing requirements.  Verify compliance of all FSMA and SFTA procedures.
  • Maintain necessary level of safety consciousness among department employees and work to reduce driver accidents
  • Plan and supervise activities to ensure efficient scheduling of deliveries to retail stores.  Oversee back haul programs and review back haul rates
  • Oversee Transportation activities to achieve all established benchmarks in regards to optimum store service and Company Goals
  • Mentor and train the Transportation Management group to improve their understanding of the Transportation operation in an effort to prepare them for their advancement within the Company
  • Ensure proper recording of all metrics to include the accurate maintenance for future budgetary processes
  • Maintain a sufficient driver workforce to meet the demands of the Business. Oversee driver road testing, training and qualification. Ensure the new driver is updated periodically on their performance to coach and mentor them through our transportation processes
  • Respond to customer complaints and work to resolve any problems in an efficient and timely manner
  • Interface with various Company office and retail store personnel and with outside carriers, vendors, etc., to ensure efficient operation and good working relationships are maintained
  • Place a high degree priority daily on ensuring all associates achieve outstanding safety behavior
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the General Manager or Corporate Director of Transportation

 

We are looking for candidates who possess the following:

  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of trucking activities to include dispatching, scheduling, and repairs
  • Prior experience in distribution transportation management required, preferably with the Parent Company
  • Possess knowledge of regulatory bodies including ICC and DOT.  
  • Possess ability to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results
  • Possess good communication skills, both oral and written.  Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone
  • Must have the ability to represent the Company’s interests in negotiations with outside professionals and consultants
  • General knowledge of EDP applications and computer capabilities required.  Prior experience with personal computer applications required.  Total familiarity with on-board computer programs and transportation software
  • Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities.  Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions
