Globe 24-7 is partnering with a mining client in Alberta, Canada, to hire an experienced Mining Maintenance Planner. This is a full-time role based onsite, in Fort McMurray, with a Monday-Friday schedule.
Position Overview
As a Maintenance Planner, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating maintenance plans that support the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of a diverse fleet of mobile and fixed equipment. Working closely with operations, maintenance teams, and external service providers, you will ensure maintenance activities are effectively prioritized, scheduled, and executed to maximize equipment availability and operational performance.
The role involves creating short- and medium-term maintenance schedules, monitoring equipment condition and performance trends, and identifying opportunities to improve reliability, reduce downtime, and optimize maintenance costs. You will contribute to maintenance strategy development, support continuous improvement initiatives, and provide data-driven recommendations to enhance asset performance.
The Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintenance Planning & Asset Management
- Develop and maintain short-, medium-, and long-term maintenance programs to support equipment reliability, availability, and lifecycle performance.
- Create and manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance schedules, ensuring efficient use of labour, materials, and equipment resources.
- Prepare detailed work packages, including job scopes, procedures, parts requirements, technical documentation, and execution plans.
- Review and improve maintenance processes, standards, and work instructions to align with operational requirements and industry best practices.
- Maintain asset maintenance records, equipment histories, and planning databases to support reliability initiatives and informed decision-making.
Maintenance Coordination & Execution Support
- Coordinate maintenance activities with operations, technical teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure safe and effective work execution.
- Conduct field inspections and worksite reviews to verify maintenance requirements, validate job scopes, and improve work quality.
- Support permit planning, resource allocation, and scheduling activities required for maintenance and repair work.
- Investigate equipment failures and operational issues through structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis methodologies.
- Manage external service providers and specialized contractors performing inspections, repairs, upgrades, and maintenance programs.
- Monitor equipment performance and maintenance backlog priorities while responding to changing operational requirements.
Reliability, Continuous Improvement & Compliance
- Analyze maintenance performance data and job feedback to identify opportunities for improved reliability, efficiency, and cost control.
- Recommend enhancements to maintenance strategies, work management practices, and asset care programs.
- Track key maintenance metrics and support initiatives aimed at increasing equipment uptime and reducing unplanned downtime.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements, internal procedures, and manufacturer recommendations.
- Support risk management processes and operational readiness through ongoing equipment condition monitoring and performance assessments.
Stakeholder & Contractor Management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritize maintenance activities and resolve equipment-related issues.
- Participate in planning, scheduling, and coordination meetings to align maintenance requirements with operational objectives.
- Liaise with vendors and service providers regarding equipment support, technical solutions, procurement, and contract services.
- Review technical documentation, drawings, manuals, and reports to support maintenance planning and decision-making.
Budgeting, Leadership & Operational Support
- Contribute to maintenance budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and variance analysis activities.
- Prepare repair cost estimates and support procurement decisions for maintenance materials, equipment, and contracted services.
- Provide mentoring and technical guidance to maintenance personnel, planners, and supervisors.
- Support leadership activities and operational continuity by providing coverage and assistance during management absences when required.
Qualifications
- Diploma, degree, or equivalent technical training in maintenance, engineering, industrial operations, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- Several years of experience in maintenance planning, scheduling, or asset management within a complex industrial, manufacturing, processing, or heavy-equipment environment.
- Demonstrated success in developing and coordinating maintenance plans, schedules, and work management processes while meeting operational objectives and deadlines.
- Strong understanding of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices, asset reliability principles, and applicable safety and environmental requirements.
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple activities in a dynamic operational setting with changing business demands.
- Skilled in developing detailed work scopes, resource plans, and maintenance execution strategies that improve efficiency and equipment performance.
- Sound analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities with the ability to evaluate risks and recommend practical solutions.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across operations, maintenance, technical services, contractors, and suppliers.
- Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), work management software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong commitment to safety, continuous improvement, operational excellence, and collaborative team performance.
- Experience supporting maintenance budgeting, cost control, and performance monitoring activities is considered beneficial.
- Leadership, supervisory, mentoring, or workforce development training is viewed as an asset.
The Rewards
The position offers a competitive remuneration package, with a base salary range from $106,000 - 126,000/yr, Relocation/Housing allowance, comprehensive benefits and additional incentives.
