Job Title: Logistics Operations Coordinator

Location: Chicago, IL — On-site
Pay: $50,000 – $65,000 per year, based on experience
Type: Permanent | Full-Time

Job Summary:

This role supports the daily execution of freight operations within a fast-moving 3PL environment specializing in temperature-controlled and time-sensitive shipments. The Logistics Operations Coordinator works closely with carrier partners, internal teams, and customers to ensure loads move on time and exceptions are handled quickly. The position is critical to maintaining service standards and carrier relationships across a high-volume book of business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate load assignments and carrier dispatch across dry van, refrigerated, and flatbed freight lanes
  • Monitor active shipments and proactively communicate delays, exceptions, or status changes to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Build and maintain relationships with carrier partners to ensure capacity and performance standards are met
  • Enter and maintain accurate load data across the TMS platform throughout the shipment lifecycle
  • Resolve carrier and customer issues in real time with urgency and professionalism
  • Collaborate with sales and account management teams to support customer needs and on-time delivery targets
  • Track KPIs including on-time pickup, on-time delivery, and carrier scorecards

Must-Haves / Requirements:

  • 1+ years of experience in freight brokerage, 3PL operations, or logistics coordination
  • Working knowledge of TMS platforms and load boards
  • Strong communication skills — comfortable managing multiple conversations with carriers and customers simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard business software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with temperature-controlled or refrigerated freight
  • Familiarity with drayage, port logistics, or LTL operations
  • Prior experience at a freight brokerage or 3PL specifically

Screening Questions:

  1. Have you worked in a freight brokerage or 3PL environment? If so, describe the types of freight and lanes you managed.
  2. What TMS or load board platforms have you used, and how comfortable are you entering and tracking load data in real time?
  3. Describe a situation where a load went sideways — carrier no-show, late pickup, or customer escalation. What did you do and what was the outcome?
