Summary:
The ICI Operations Manager oversees daily frontline operations within the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional line of business, ensuring safe, efficient, and on‑time service delivery. The role leads dispatching, routing, and frontline teams while monitoring performance, safety compliance, and labour efficiency. Strong leadership, customer focus, and coordination with maintenance teams are essential to meeting service and productivity goals.
Responsibilities:
In the position of ICI Operations Manager, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversee day‑to‑day frontline operations within the Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional line of business, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery.
Manage dispatching, routing, driver scheduling, and daily workflow coordination to meet service commitments and productivity targets.
Provide both fiscal and operational leadership for the Markham District IC&I contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
Prepare annual operating budgets and manage operations within approved financial parameters.
Lead operational planning for goals, KPIs, and performance standards in alignment with Miller Waste Systems strategic objectives.
Directly supervise and support supervisors, dispatchers, administrative staff, and frontline drivers through coaching, mentoring, and team‑building initiatives.
Manage performance of direct reports through regular feedback, performance evaluations, and progressive discipline where required.
Lead daily safety meetings and ensure strict adherence to Miller Waste Systems safety policies, procedures, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure fleet reliability, equipment availability, and effective preventive maintenance practices.
Track daily productivity, route performance, KPIs, and complete monthly variance analyses and operational reports.
Oversee WSIB claims management, safety reporting, and incident tracking.
Act as a primary point of contact with municipal partners, internal stakeholders, and customers.
Ensure all collection services are completed as scheduled, with service failures addressed promptly and effectively.
Other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned.
Competencies & Qualifications:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a related managerial role with demonstrated fiscal and operational responsibility.
Proven experience leading frontline operations, with previous experience in a unionized environment preferred.
Strong understanding of operational KPIs, labour management, route productivity, and budget control.
DZ Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record preferred.
Excellent attendance and performance record complemented by strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to coach, motivate, and manage performance through formal and informal feedback, including progressive discipline when required.
Working knowledge of municipal contracts, service agreements, and regulatory compliance.
Solid proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and related programs).
Strong commitment to health and safety, with working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
Flexibility to work Saturdays and Sundays when operationally required.
