The Department of Transportation is seeking a Grade Crossing Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will support the district’s grade crossing, railroad coordination, and multimodal planning efforts by managing data, collaborating with internal and external partners, and ensuring compliance with Public Utility Commission (PUC) requirements. Your responsibilities include:
Coordinating district collection and updates of grade crossing inventory data for off-system (non-state highway) locations, and working with district units to gather opinions, funding information, designs, and recommendations needed to carry out PUC orders and related railroad activities.
Building and maintaining effective working relationships with railroad representatives to exchange information on resurfacing projects, track rehabilitation schedules, and required maintenance. You will also review, verify, and process railroad billings under PUC order agreements and represent the district in railroad service abandonment applications before the Surface Transportation Board.
Attending PUC field conferences and hearings involving railroads and municipalities, presenting the Department’s position based on policy and case conditions, and representing the Department at informal PUC complaint proceedings and field meetings. You will also serve as the district’s Turnpike Coordinator and Intermodal Coordinator.
Supporting Planning and Programming activities by helping screen project candidates across all transportation modes, coordinating with planning partners, and ensuring effective linkage between NEPA and the planning process.
