Position summary:
The Distribution Operations Technician plays a key role in ensuring the accurate and efficient flow of materials within the distribution center. This position is responsible for receiving and inspecting incoming goods, verifying product accuracy and quality, printing and applying product labels, and performing all aspects of order fulfillment - including picking, packing, and shipping – through the DSI barcode scanning system. The role also includes processing returns, performing inventory adjustments, and operating specialized equipment such as the XYZ cutter and powered industrial vehicles. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent attention to detail, proficiency with warehouse software and barcode systems, and a thorough understanding of distribution operations. This individual will uphold company standards for safety, accuracy, and quality while contributing to a highly organized and efficient work environment.
Educational requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate or undergraduate degree in business, supply chain management, or similar field with experience preferred
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
- Minimum of two (3) years of experience in warehouse, logistics, or distribution operations preferred
Skills and experience:
- Forklift license required
- Proficiency with UPS and FedEx shipping platforms and familiarity with carrier compliance requirements
- Knowledge of shipping carriers, methods, and geographic location data (City, State, Country)
- Proficiency with warehouse management systems and labeling software; experience with the DSI barcode scanning system strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurate product verification, labeling, and documentation
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate material processing equipment such as the XYZ cutter
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively in a team environment
- General computer proficiency, including accurate typing skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD preferred
Essential duties:
- Promote socially responsible sustainability in Samples and Interface
- Increase value in Samples by identifying value-added and non-value-added activities
- Interact with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve culture, reliability, productivity, and socially responsible collaboration
- Receive and inspect inbound material, ensuring a proper match to the master and the packing list
- Conduct product verification to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with company specifications
- Print labels to be applied to sample tiles upon receipt
- Label samples with the correct product information
- Maintain accurate inventory records through regular cycle counts and system updates
- Use the DSI scanner to stock replenishment materials in their designated locations, pick the required products and materials for each order, and pack orders in the correct-sized containers, ensuring accuracy, quality, and efficiency
- Verify and ship all orders accurately and on time
- Verify in-house and customer pick up orders daily
- Properly stack pallets and load trailers for carrier pickup at close of business
- Maintain accurate shipment records and file daily paperwork per department requirements
- Interpret technical drawings, patterns, and specifications to determine cutting requirements
- Conduct quality checks on materials before and after cutting to ensure adherence to standards
- Maintain and calibrate cutting equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety
- Inspect returned items and separate first quality products from damaged products
- Record necessary data to support circularity and reuse initiatives
- Prepare and deliver damaged products to re-entry
- File all paperwork in the proper location or to the correct personnel
- Secure sample area at the end of each shift
- Serve as a backup for driving the samples truck to support delivery and operational needs
- Comply with DOT Physical requirements
- Operate powered material handling equipment safely and in compliance with licensing requirements
- Maintain lift trucks and batteries
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards
- Comply with safety rules and environmental regulations
- Be aware of departmental safety data sheets (SDS) and ISO information
- Follow ISO procedures as directed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional lifting of up to 70 pounds
- Climb ladders up to 7-8 ft.
- Ability to push carts loaded with carpet tiles and marketing materials
- Perform physical warehouse tasks including standing, bending, and reaching for extended periods
- Work overtime as needed
