TITLE: Director of Operations

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director of Operations will report to the General Manager and partner with plant leadership in providing support, oversight and leadership to plant production operations. This role will be responsible for providing leadership direction to all plant production functions, to include staffing needs, development and adherence to operational budget items, product yields and recovery, production scheduling. The Director of Operations will work to develop and implement operational processes and systems to achieve business goals while demonstrating our core values of leadership, integrity, and innovation through sound practices and established guidelines.

Essential Duties:

  • Operational Management: Responsible for directing day-to-day plant production operations to include operational expense management, production yields, operating efficiencies, shipping, by-product recovery, processing and plant sanitation.
  • Budget Development and Management: Works with the management team in the development and effective management of the annual operations budget to include capital project requests and prioritization.
  • Employee/Labor Relations: Works closely with HR in supporting initiatives for leadership development, education and training, staffing needs and strategies, and accurate and effective compliance with the union CBA. 
  • Compliance: Works with the management team in supporting the administration and compliance with federal, state, and local laws and company policies and procedures.
  • Staffing: Works with HR to determine and communicate workforce staffing plans and plays an active leadership role in the development and retention of current and new employees.
  • Leadership Development: Partners with senior management to identify and proactively develop talent through formal training, mentoring, coaching, and assignments. Participates in succession planning to ensure talent is available and ready to assume positions of greater responsibility within the Company.
  • Performance Management: Supports and utilizes the performance management process, working with plant management on their employee reviews and evaluations, providing training and consultation as necessary.
  • Employee Safety and Engagement: Supports and champions employee safety and engagement. Works closely with HR to review trends and implement actions to ensure positive organizational changes.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develops strong and collaborative relationships with peers in Maintenance, Quality Assurance, IT, HR, Sales and Accounting so to function as an efficient and effective team in driving business success.
  • Works closely within the management team to support strategies and implementation of initiatives from other functional areas of the company
  • Develops strong business metrics for the entire management team and creates and promotes and environment of continuous improvement with a strong sense of accountability and ownership at all levels.
  • Works closely with outside vendors e.g. packaging, equipment, laundry, security, cleanup, etc.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of beef plant operational experience in a management capacity
  • Strong presentation and business communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, demanding work environment with constant deadlines, interruptions, competing priorities
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft office products
  • Ability to interpret yield reports and statistical reporting
  • Strong knowledge of the United States CFR Title 9
  • Strong working knowledge of HAACP in beef slaughter facilities

 

WAGE RANGE: $110,000 - $150,000 per year 

BENEFITS: Competitive benefit package offered for employees (and qualified dependents) working 30+ hours per week includes medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, 401k, PTO accrual up to 15 days per year, six (6) paid holidays annually, and three (3) floating holidays.
