The Galloway School seeks a dedicated and experienced leader to serve as Director of Finance and Operations. This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring the financial health, operational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability of the school.
The Director of Finance and Operations oversees financial systems, human resources, facilities management, and risk management functions, ensuring these areas operate with transparency, stability, and accountability.
Working closely with the Head of School and the Board of Trustees, the Director of Finance and Operations provides thoughtful financial leadership and strategic operational oversight that supports the school’s mission, community, and future growth.
The Director of Finance and Operations serves as a senior institutional leader and is expected to contribute strategically to the overall success and sustainability of the school. This position plays a vital role in stewarding the school’s resources responsibly while helping create an environment where students and educators can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Stewardship:
- Manage all banking operations, including deposits, disbursements, cash flow, and account reconciliation
- Establish and maintain sound accounting procedures, including budgeting, expense tracking, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll processing
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard school assets and ensure fiscal responsibility
- Prepare accurate monthly and annual financial statements
- Provide financial reports to the Board of Trustees, including budget performance, variance analysis, and long-term projections
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with school leadership
- Serve as the primary liaison to the school’s external auditor and tax preparer, coordinating the annual audit and ensuring timely completion of required filings and financial reporting
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Oversee insurance policies and claims to ensure appropriate coverage
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Support strong governance practices in partnership with the Board of Trustees
Human Resources & Benefits Administration:
- Manage HR functions including employee onboarding, policy administration, and personnel record maintenance
- Oversee benefits programs, including health insurance and 403(b) retirement plans
- Ensure payroll accuracy and regulatory compliance
Operations & Facilities Oversight:
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance practices to protect and extend facility assets
- Coordinate energy audits and long-term facilities planning
- Support capital improvement planning aligned with the school’s financial capacity
Enrollment & Institutional Support:
- Collaborate with school leadership to support enrollment growth and retention efforts
- Contribute to marketing initiatives that strengthen the school’s visibility and community engagement
- Support donor stewardship through clear financial reporting and accountability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
- Experience in financial management and operational leadership
- Nonprofit or independent school experience preferred
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and commitment to mission-driven work
- A commitment to the Christian faith and the mission of a Christ-centered school.
- Ability to successfully complete and maintain required fingerprinting and background clearances.
