Duration: Contract - 3 Months
A large, complex organization is seeking a senior-level Benefits Consultant to provide strategic and operational leadership across the full spectrum of benefits administration.
This role requires a professional capable of operating at a director-level strategic capacity, engaging directly with executive leadership while also managing operational aspects of the organization’s benefits portfolio.
The selected consultant will be expected to quickly assess the current benefits landscape, support ongoing initiatives, and manage vendor relationships with minimal ramp-up time.
Provide leadership across health & welfare and financial benefits programs.
Evaluate the current benefits landscape and recommend improvements to enhance program effectiveness.
Support benefits strategy development and implementation aligned with organizational objectives.
Manage vendor relationships and ensure high-quality service delivery.
Lead discussions related to benefits structure, cost management, and program performance.
Present updates and recommendations to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
Represent the benefits function in cross-functional leadership forums.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal governance standards.
Candidates must demonstrate broad benefits leadership experience across both major benefits categories:
Medical, dental, and vision programs
Health plan strategy and administration
Vendor management and compliance oversight
Retirement programs (401k / pension plans)
Financial wellness initiatives
Deferred compensation or other financial benefit structures
Candidates should demonstrate experience integrating these offerings into a cohesive total rewards strategy.
The selected consultant must be comfortable:
Presenting to senior leaders and executive stakeholders
Leading strategic discussions on benefits design, cost management, and vendor performance
Representing the benefits function in cross-functional leadership forums
This role requires an individual who can lead conversations and influence decision-making, not simply participate.
Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience working in:
Healthcare systems
Large or complex organizations
Healthcare experience is valuable due to the complexity of workforce structures, regulatory environments, and benefit program administration.
Candidates must have direct experience managing complex benefits Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, including:
Vendor selection strategy
Development of evaluation frameworks
Cross-functional stakeholder alignment
Vendor negotiation and implementation support
Candidates must have demonstrated experience managing the full lifecycle of annual benefits enrollment, including:
Communication strategy and employee engagement campaigns
Benefits technology platforms
Enrollment administration
Post-enrollment auditing and reconciliation
The consultant should also be capable of evaluating and improving annual enrollment processes where necessary.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources Management, or related discipline
Master’s degree preferred
Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience managing benefits operations
Experience implementing and administering:
Qualified retirement plans
Health and welfare benefits
Wellness initiatives
Experience within large or multi-divisional organizations
Certified Benefits Professional (CBP)
Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS)
Other relevant HR or benefits certifications are a plus.
