Lead day-to-day U.S. customs brokerage operations for a lean team. Ensure accurate, compliant, and on-time filings with specialized oversight for FDA-regulated entries, FTZ transactions, and AD/CVD-sensitive imports. This role is hands-on: you will manage workflow priorities, coach staff, drive process control, and own escalations that impact cargo release and compliance risk.
Key responsibilities
- Operations leadership (hands-on): Own daily entry production, queue management, cutoff performance, exception handling, and urgent release triage.
- Tariff and trade policy execution support: Stay current on tariff and duty updates (e.g., trade remedies and other applicable duty programs) and provide practical guidance to entry writers to ensure accurate entry filing and duty reporting.
- Compliance controls: Implement risk-based checks for HTS/classification support, valuation, origin, bonds/POA, and recordkeeping quality.
- POA validation oversight: Ensure adherence to the Power of Attorney (POA) validation process, including documentation completeness, authorization scope, and internal controls that support compliant brokerage activity.
- FDA accounts: Ensure accurate ACE FDA data/message set filing; standardize intake of FDA-critical product data; manage FDA holds/exams coordination and corrective actions.
- FDA products include: Food, cosmetic and medical
- Other PGA products handling, USDA, FWS, DOT and EPA
- FTZ: Oversee FTZ workflows (e.g., admissions/214 coordination and downstream entry support), documentation integrity, and operator/client alignment.
- AD/CVD & trade remedies: Identify AD/CVD risk, validate case applicability inputs, ensure correct cash deposit handling, and escalate scope-risk cases early.
- Post-entry & CBP actions: Manage CF28/CF29 responses, holds/exams, PSC workflows, and client-facing escalation communications.
- People & performance: Supervise and cross-train staff; maintain SOPs/checklists; reduce rework and improve productivity/quality.
- Systems & improvement: Own operational use of ABI/ACE tools and document flow; track KPIs (rejects, holds aging, release time, error rate) and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in U.S. customs brokerage operations; demonstrated experience with FDA, FTZ, and AD/CVD.
- Strong working knowledge of ACE/ABI, entry documentation, and compliance workflows.
- Proven ability to lead in a small-team, high-accountability environment.
- Strong written communication and escalation management skills.
- Preferred: Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or equivalent senior brokerage experience / close partnership with qualifying broker.
